Hi Geeks,,

I am looking at purchasing my first Andriod phone and was thinking about getting the 2Degrees LG P500 but see the news about the cool sounding Huawei X5.
Should I wait for the X5 (vapourware?) or go to P500 now? I need a new phone kinda in a hurry, but can use an old crappa for a SHORT while if the X5 is likely to be avaliable soon...?

Ta for any reccomendations..

I don't know which version of Android the Huawei X5 is running, but the LG P500 is running Android 2.2.

There is a later version of Android out 2.3 (Gingerbread).
LG are saying they will do the upgrade to Android 2.3 for the P500 but they are not giving a specific time.

LG  originally said the P500 wasn't able to be upgraded due to technical limitations, but then they were caught out telling a little porky here.

Once this became known they said they will upgrade the P500.

If it is important you might want to see which version of Android the X5 is running.

I have a LG P500 and am very happy with it.

Wait for the X5.
The p500 is nice, but assuming the X5 is at a good price point, it will be worth it.

No idea if Huawei will update to 2.3 or not. If not, modders will backport 2.3 from the X6 probably.

X5.

Full res bigger screen.  Likely nice clean vanilla 2.2.  Better CPU with full flash 10.1 support.

Hold fire there buddy.

Yeah thanks guys, I was thinking of holding off too. Just been burnt before waiting and waiting.... LOL. And I REALLY need a new phone :-) the Nokia 6120c I am using is rubbish, and is barley still working LOL.

Called 2Degrees to see if they can tell me when it might be out. As most of you would probably have told me that was a wasted call LOL. Seems they would MUCH rather just sell me a P500 right now, and they have "no idea at all" when or even IF the X5 will be avaliable in NZ Undecided

If you're ready now... go.
When the X5 is in the stores there will be something better on the horizon.... so do you wait for that? I'm not so sure that procrastination will change anything

Yeah, I know. But murpheys law states the moment I buy a P500 the X5 will be avaliable 1 week later and have something I need LOL.

Just wait for the X5, I read/watched a preview and it looks pretty decent and runs Android 2.2 It's also much higher res than the P500

After using the P500 for a month, I really like it and can't fault it except now I consume more data and use my phone for alot more internet/email tasks I'm thinking a bigger screen would be nice.

If I was in your shoes, knowing what I know now I'd go with the X5.
