Android appears to be a much more popular platform than Symbian^3, so I'd say Nexus... just cause I'm a Symbian-to-Android convert (lovin' the IDEOS in all its low-end glory). I do miss my E50 though... :(
Nexus it is, IMHO. ^_^

Symbian is a dead platform, no ones going to bother developing for it anymore. Android is where the apps and updates are :)

Up until October I was a big fan of Nokia but since I have had my android device I am a fan no more.
The best thing about the Nokia's is their hardware.

You should be able to upgrade to 2.3 Ginberbread stright away with the Nexus as well.

Guess it depends on the cost and availability. I have the N1 and also had the Nexus S (though since it was still unopened, the only experience I had with it was in the store where I bought it). In the end I didn't feel the upgrade was sufficient to warrant the expense but if you're going from no phone and want a native Google phone without the bloatware the NS is a good choice.

IMO the N8 felt dated when using it, hardware was only ok, and the software made it a lot more unbearable. Epic Camera, but that's not everything in a camera. Thats my opinion on the N8. Used to be a Nokia only buyer, but have since converted, partly due to OS, now using Android and WP7. Nexus is a fairly well built device overall, and has a solid feel to it.

Agreed that the Nexus devices are a better option as you get a vanilla experience and faster updates.

I recommend windows phone 7. HTC 7 Trophy from vodafone or mobicity who have other wp7 handsets to choose from. Unique UI and very speedy platform.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Shouldn't you be asking N8 vs Nexus S / Galaxy S / Desire HD / Huawei X5 / Huawei X6 / Galaxy S2 / Atrix / SE Arc

Nexus one is quite an old phone, and not as good value anymore.

I would choose the N8 for the camera, otherwise android phones are better

If photographic features are important, then the N8 has 12Mp camera with Carl Zeiss lens, 720p 25 FPS video, HDMI out - but since you are considering the Nexus One, then perhaps those things aren't important for you - so compare with Nokia C6-01 or another Nokia instead. If having Android O/S is important to you, then why consider any Nokia?

Nokia N8 and Nexus One seem to target different markets.

Totally agree!!  Otherwise I'd take the Nexus S or Galaxy S II Mini when they get released in April(according to VFNZ), May everywhere else according to most other blogs

I am thinking of the Nexus S now. I will mainly use it for..
- Gaming (Important, 3d games)
- Texting
- Calling
- Bit of photo and video
- Multimedia like music and movies.
- GPS

Mainly the above. Will want lots of apps. :p

What do you think? Nexus S? according to my above wants. Cause it looks nice and its got features.

I think galaxy s is similar in spec but can be had a lot cheaper, it also has micro sd slot which the nexus s doesn't have.
