don't know about the updates, but I have played on both and prefer the Xoom. Just feels smoother.
The acer is still damn nice though.

I think I'd go the Xoom out of those two.

How about the ASUS Transformer?

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I think that the full sized usb port that the acer has wins it for me, its like a phone having a 3.5mm over a 2.5mm headphones jack, proper size is just better.

I have had my A500 (32gb) for a week and I'm quite impressed with it. Very snappy performance and movies and video run really well on a very bright 1280 by 800 screen. Syncs well with gmail and the social network integration is very smooth if you like that stuff. Still getting used to the browser which is like a skinny chrome and may try opera. Have some issues with using a micro SD card (pinched from my Nokia E71) until I formatted it again on my PC. USB connectivity is fine and I managed to get a bluetooth snyc to some no brand headphones my daughter has.

I have not tried the HDMI output yet as it is not bundled with a micro HDMI cable. I see they have some on trademe for $12 so might give it a try sometime.

I won't be giving up my laptop soon but the battery life (I had 8 and a half hours straight and some left) is great and it is easy to hold in either landscape or portrait.

I read somewhere on androidforums.com that 3.1 should (not will) be released to other devices in a few weeks. I understand the main benefit will be enhanced USB connectivity. There are not a huge number of apps written for Honeycomb yet in the Android market place and some of the older apps look a bit odd. The purpose built apps really make use of the bigger screen,

I have not had a chance to use the motorolla tablet but I believe it is quite a lot dearer. Feature for feature I think the Acer is a pretty good buy especially the 16 GB model. I have not been an acer fan in the past but this device is seems solid. It also looks like they have a 2 year warranty which is a plus.

What is the browser like, is it able to do full desktop browsing? Mainly what's the flash quality and streaming video quality like? As this would be the main reason I would get one to replace a laptop when it comes to browsing.

Thanks for the mini review. re the asus transformer, it's too hard to source and I understand it has other issues. Xoom abd A500 seem best

Installed flash as soon as I got it as not bundled. have used it on all my usual sites and video plays very smoothly. load times seem marginally longer than on my laptop but that may be because I am using it with a weaker WiFi signal as i use it further from the router.
Flash rich sites are fine and I have not found any sites that behave any differently because i am using the tablet.
this post written on the A500.
