hey does any one here have much exp with using VPN's on their cell's ?

just thinking about trying something.

actually some links to good/safe free vpn's would be cool but other wise i'm checking this out:

https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/

but yeh .. so i'm keen to see if i could set that up on my SGS2 , the use andriod's wifi hotspot mode to share the connection with my ps3 .... annnd ... would that get me through to the US PSN store? (i mean when it's back up) cause i can see the US PSN stoe just fine and download free demos ..but ... any paid content it IP checks you and refuses you progress to get at content like it's movie service etc.

i already have a entropay "virtual" Ccard ..so should be set payment side of things ....

Do you have fixed lined broadband? By the time you pay mobile rates, it's cheaper to just buy a router that's preconfigured to access Witopia for example, put it in your network and plug the devices your want to VPN through it...

I have found that with my nexus s, I can connect via vpn and access the other sides network via the phone.

BUT, if I try and turn on the mobile hotspot when the VPN is connected, and then tether my laptop, I have no connectivity to the other side.

I think it is an Android routing problem.

I had a phone tethered through privateinternetaccess, but i had to use L2TP which they just recently brought out because the Android PPTP implementation is completely borked. >_>

Anyway, it works fine for me on cyanogenmod with tethering/vpn

But, honestly, I would opt for using a DD-WRT router and setting it up.  It's way easier... and way cheaper.  You can get those routers for 40 bucks and then just get a VPN.

oh yeh of course, id have to be insane to do it over mobile bB ...  this would be via my home wifi.

so yeh i guess i could look into doing it via my router ..but ... would i be able to broadcast both the vpn connectionAND my normal home interent at the same time?  i have other ppl using devices on my network.  i'd guess at no.

so yeh ..via my phone wouldn't require any extra HW, plus i'd have specific control as to which devices at home got to use the vpn, and which got my normal network.

but yeh ...just worried re not being able to stream the vpn connection over wifi FROM my cell .

aw heck might just try it ... would get me amazon store access at the least, guide here:

I wasn't suggesting using one router only, but ADDING a second router, that would be used with the VPN configuration. This way you would have your existing LAN, plus another segment that would be entirely "VPN".

I might have to try L2PT if it works better with android... because at the moment, I have to turn on tethering on my Nexus S w/ CM7, then connect my laptop, and then connect up to my VPN using the windows client.

It would be a lot easier if I could just connect my phone to the VPN instead....

Could well be the way the VPN server is setup. If you are connecting to a corporate network via VPN, then usually once the connection is made to the corporate network, Internet access is blocked on the client through the initial connection and you have to use the corporate proxy server.

This way is stops a backdoor path from the Internet to the corporate network.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

I'm not sure because I cannot even connect to the corporate proxy via my laptop. Its like all connections from my phone are routed over VPN, while all wifi tethering traffic is routed over standard 3G.

I will get around to setting up a L2TP tunnel next week to see if that helps.
