Bought an Inspire HD from trademe extending my budget for inspire over desire because of extra internal memory but that turned out to be a useless investment because when I received the phone,

1. Rooted (when I asked him later why it wasn't mentioned in the ad, he said I should've known because unless rooted AT&T inspire won't work in NZ)

2. Running 2.3.3
3. Phone identity says - HTC Desire HD
4. Internal Memory - .94GB free.
5. Cannot connect to 3G Vodafone.

My biggest concern is problem number 5, after reading numerous posts on internet including geekzone and trial and error with APN settings I still cannot get the 3G to work :(

Any help please?

This is my first android and touch screen and I'm in love with it. I was always loyal to symbian and still use my N86 but I think its about time I got an upgrade..

Sorry about long text..

I can browse internet by 2G, but not 3G.  My Nokia N86 picks up 3G at my home so I'm pretty sure I'm in a 3G coverage area.

AT&T does not use the 2100MHz UMTS band for its network (which is Vodafone's primary 3G band). I'd say you've made a mistake buying that.

Your only hope will be if the hardware is 2100MHz capable and the option to enable it is buried somewhere in the service menu.

Agree.

And memory tells me the Inspire doesn't have the hardware for 2100MHz.  For the OP's sake I hope I'm wrong about that.

The phone is rooted and from the "identity" it says its a Desire HD, and in the network menu, there are 3 options

1. WCDMA only
2. GSM only
3. GSM/WCDMA auto

And I'm on 3, but if I go on 1.WCDMA only, I get 0 bars, no signal at all.

So does the Inspire not work on Vodafone 3G at all?

I'm using 5year old sim card, maybe that too?

For 3G, Vodafone uses 2100MHz in most centers with 900MHz available in rural and infill areas.
AT&T uses 850MHz (which is the same as Telecom's XT network) and 1900MHz.

So as you can see, the phone is totally unsuitable for the vodafone 3G network.
