My seedbox provider also gives me an openvpn connection I can connect to, works great in my VM at home for torrenting (subject to ISP slowness) but I was wanting to get my android to use it so I can safely use free wifi around the place.

Is it possible? Googling gets many forums of developers talking about installing stuff etc, I just want to know if I can get it working on a non rooted and wont be rooted handset.

I believe you can't use OpenVPN without rooting - requires a TUN adapter installed i think, which isn't going to happen without root.
Cyanogenmod has it built in - root access ftw!

PPTP or L2TP. Those are your only options without rooting.
