I have recently flashed my android ZTE V9 from 2.1 to 2.2 and the firmware is great.

The problem is I have lost the 850MHz frequency.

Is there a way to keep the 2.2 and enable the 850MHz frequency?
Alternativly I might flash back to 2.1 but I need the files to do so, does anyone have these?

ADITIONAL INFO:
Have had endless trouble with clockworkmod and rom manager so I used the ZTE flashing program on my PC to upgrade the phone to 2.2 via USB cable.

I have also heard there is a radio file or something where you can tell the phone to use the 850MHz frequency... could it really be that simple???

For most things, yup... It would be just sending the right code/data to the chip that's already in the tab

Try typing *#*#4646#*#* into the dialer, then go into "Phone information" and check the settings. Don't mess with anything you don't understand in there though! :)

If the firmware was Telecom supplied, it should be fine, and if you didn't update the radio, you should be fine. If either of these is not the case, then you might want to find someone with an original radio (aka modem) file that they can either pull off theirs and give you, or find one from Telecom.

If you're lucky there might be a generic 850Mhz friendly radio out there if that is in fact the problem. Usually frequency support is in the hardware so the actual radio firmware shouldn't matter (as long as it's chip-compatible) unless they've gone out of their way to do it.

I think I understood most of that.

After typing that number into my phone nothing happens, no menu appears or anything.

I like your idea about taking a copy of someone elses radio file from a V9, how would I go about doing that and installing it to my phone? Would this file be specific to Android 2.1 or should it thoretically work with any version of Android?

Radio's are _usually_ version independant, but it depends on the device to some extent.

I'm not sure if you can pull the radio image from an active device, I've had a quick look and people haven't met with much success trying, you might need to go back to Telecom and see if they can supply an update unless there's a full image floating around somewhere you can pull the radio out of. Even one from a non-Telecom model that runs on 850mhz should do the trick.

ZTE (the device manufacturer) don't list anything other than a user manual for the Telecom version of the V9 on their site.

You might need to go back to Telecom on that one, hopefully they've got a base image they can flash onto it.

FWIW - CyanogenMod 7 (Android 2.3 - Gingerbread) has been ported to the V9 as well. (aka "Optus MyTab" or "ZTE Light").

It's only for 2nd Gen units, how you tell if it's a 1st or 2nd gen unit, I've no idea unfortunately.

That's good to know, I might update to 2.3 at some point.

For now though I would just like to find a way to enable 850MHz on any one of them. I have tried heaps of different ROMs and none have support, which makes me think that maybe it is a separate process to get that radio up and running.

Telecom must have had to do it when they purchased the phone from ZTE...

Telegistics have the base image I believe, but they wont give it to me, they want me to send my phone into them so they can put it back to how it was. Not really that keen.. I wouldn't mind keeping the updated Android version and also having the knowledge of how to flash my device and make it work on 850MHz. I don't think I'm far away, just need a bit of a brainwave on the whole 'radios' thing... (somebody elses brainwave, hence asking for help. lol)
