[First of all, sorry for posting a topic that may have been covered elsewhere or briefly touched on. For some reason the site search doesn't seem to be working.]

Greeting all,

How many GS2 owners are using screen protectors? I read on android forums (and may have been on xda too) that the Oleophobic coating can be scratched easily.

Can anybody recommend a NZ based retailer for a good case? I'm looking for one similar to the Case-mate tough (silicon inner/tough outer). I've seen the ones on TradeMe and I feel that I'd do more damage inserting it into one of those cases. I know I can get one from Clove for around $64, but do you have to go through the rigmarole of GST declarations, import duties? etc.

Do cases affect GPS reception?

As you may have guessed I'm still in 'new toy mode' as this is my first touch screen phone. I'm currently keeping my SG2 wrapped in a hitecloth and I'm keeping my hands as grease free as possible!

Regards,

Laurence

Since SGS2 is still relatively new in NZ, there wouldn't be that many retailers that would stock cases or screen protectors for it. Your best bet would be to look online.

I am getting the accessories from ebay.

Just buy directly from Case-Mate.

I have a couple of times now and have not regretted it at all.
Simply the best protection for my N1.

Thank you all for the replies,

I know I'm being a bit over protective of my SG2, but it's so light and thin, like those after dinner mints.

@pjshark: Did you incur any customs charges?

Regards,

Laurence.

For a flagship phone such as SGS2, you have to be over protective :)

I'll get a screen protector from them, but I'm sold on a Case-Mate Tough :D

Just about to order one. From what I can make out, the case attracts %0 duty and is below $400, so therefore there'll be no issue with NZ Customs.

Mine is a "momax" protector. Had it since jan and am only now thinking about my second for this phone. 6 months on 1 is pretty good for a truck driver!
Previously had one on my old phone too.

Fair enough, I'll check it out [EDIT: No MOMAX iCases are available for SG2]

Probably getting it now from Clove, it may cost a few NZD more, but at least the shipping won't take 3-4 weeks as with directly buying from the US (from case-mate directly). Would cost ~USD$30 for it to arrive sooner.

I'm using a Steinheil Ultra Series Oleophobic screen protector. It's crystal clear and scratch resistant, as well as oil resistant. My phone lives in my pocket pretty much the whole time and was getting very fine dust scratches in the gorilla glass oleophobic coating. The new protector is just fantastic, very smooth and clear. I had tried a couple of others, immediately removing them as they were crap. The only one I can remember was Brando.

I'll never buy anything else if these are available.

Waiting (for ages, god damn it) on my Rearth Ringke case. Looks pretty sweet - combination of polymer and silicone apparently. Will update once (if ever..) it turns up.

I think it was your post in the android forums that sparked my sudden interest in cases and screen protection, after all, it's only a matter of time before that drop or scratch! so in regards to purchasing them, 'sooner rather than later' springs to mind.

Having said that, I owned my N95 for (around) 4 years before that first drop, regrettably on to hard ground that cracked the body and quickly spread the cover, battery, and phone over 1 square metre.

Thank you all for your responses.

Regards,

Laurence.

P.S. I decided on the Case-Mate Tough case from Clove. (review: http://youtu.be/M9YpXCwVBA4 )

I ordered this from ebay, still waiting for it and my phone to arrive.

It is apparently semi-soft material with range of colours to choose from, I especially like the corrsponding metal looking buttons on the case, it just gives it a more quality feel to it, unlike other cases where you just have openings.
