I am new to the Android scene and have been trying, without success, to get the bookmarks to appear as little icons/apps like they do on the Iphone and already installed shortcuts but all I get is a silly red flag that represents the bookmark on the homescreen.

I am running Android 2.3 and the phone is an HTC Desire S

I have googled and searched and they all say that it should just work as long as the website has the 'fav icon' or 'link rel="apple-touch-icon" ' in the header but it doesnt work.

I believe it could be something to do with the HTC Sense UI but hope someone has been able to achieve this and tell me how

I found an app called "Folder Organizer" that allows you to create icons but its a bit of a long winded work around so still hoping there is another way

I've got a samsung galaxy running 2.3.4

I've got the standard "internet" app which I think might be the google one. Once I have book marked a website in this app I just have to go into the bookmark (tap and hold) and select "Add shortcut to home" It saves an icon on the home page of that particular web address

I've also got the Opera Mobile app but can't find a way of doing it here.

Thanks for the reply but I might not have been clear. I can save bookmarks to the homescreen but the issue is that the icon is a silly wee red flag instead of a nice icon like the iphone or any existing shortcuts (like the XT your telecom shortcut is the Telecom Logo)

Ah, yes. I see what you mean. When I look closer it is a little red flag. With mine the red flag has an icon of the website inside it. And there is the text title of the site as well. Maybe this is as good as it gets?

I think it may depend on the website. I have a Samsung Galaxy S running 2.3.3 and some of mine save as little red flags and others save as normal (like the iphone)
