Wow, great news, Samsung have done well there (I think this probably started with them supplying a free Galaxy S II to the cyanogenmod team to develop for).

Could this mean no more Cyanogen?

Also might hint at Samsung possible going stock AOSP in the future.

Sadly I feel he will become crippled, they will hire him for his genius and then restrict him so much he can't be genius and the whole thing will become a waste of everything. Corporate Policy and Marketing will override the entire thing and no good will come of it. He will eventually leave, disillusioned and hating Samsung.

I wouldn't imagine on reflection he will consider it worth it, I am not sure what he would be being paid, but I'd imagine something like $150-200K

Well he would being paid more than a std developer because he will also have a consultation role to play I would imagine. Like when Mark Russinovich was hired by MS, as a developer/consultant, prob earning 200K or something, but at MS, I believe his Salary exceeds $1M plus stock.

I think on Samsung devices, especially the i9000 Cyanogen was not that great. It didn't fully support the hardware and had bad battery drain. I'm surprised that HTC didn't hire him as he has always focused on HTC devices in the past.

HTC are moving TOWARD locked devices, Samsung AWAY from locked devices, someone like Steve wouldn't be welcome at HTC and he would never agree to work for a company who locks their devices, I will almost guarantee in his contract there is a clause that allows him to walk away with a golden parachute if Samsung Locks it's bootloaders on flagship models while he works there.

Cyanogen has done a brilliant job with CM7 on my Samsung Nexus S! But remember too, that he is not the only developer working on CM7. There are a dozen or so.

I think he was the instigator of it all, but currently only works on a few devices himself personally.

I think he will be a great asset to Samsung, but of course the whole Cyanogen team would have been better! ;)
