What would be the next logical upgrade from an HTC Desire HD?

I am looking for only Android devices.

Samsung S2 looks good, and so does the HTC Sensation, both with faster processors. However, would I be right to say it wouldn't be worth the upgrade from my current device?

Your thoughts?

Both are very nice phones to go to, you wont be disappointed with either.

One thing to consider, your Desire HD isn't getting any younger so might be worth a bit more now than say a few months time with newer phones hitting the market. That's the type of argument I make to justify my own purchasing decisions :)

That's how I justify myself with tech purchases too! However, do you guys think holding out for the Samsung Note would be a better "upgrade"?

I am thinking if I go with the S2 or Sensation I won't really find it too different to the DHD I have now?

The main difference is going from HTC sense to TouchWiz, I had a Desire and liked sense, but you get used to it.

The Note doesnt interest me.

I would think you will find the S2 quite a bit different than your current DHD - check out the Anandtech review out in the last few days for more technical detail than most can handle on why the S2 is the best phone out there. The Sensation is also very good.

If you can stomach the size and wait for release then the Note is a pretty substantial upgrade.

+1 on what NZtechfreak said above.

I personally had the original SGS and now SGS2, loving it.

Another thing about the Galaxy Note is the price, if the pricing indication overseas is anything to go by, once it is available in NZ, it will be astronomical, even if you buy it from a parallel imported place locally in NZ or ordering from overseas online store, it will still be very pricey.

Even though the Note just looks plain ridiculous, it WILL be my next phone.

there is no point upgrading from DHD to SGS2/Sensation. DHD to Galaxy NOTE is the way to go!

I agree, the Samsung Note does look like a better upgrade. Going to wait and see what HTC comes up with to compete with the Note.

Regarding the price on the Note: there is no price. It has not been set yet at all, all you are seeing is Clove's purely speculative pre-order price being quoted everywhere on the net. Clove are quite upfront about it - its only been priced to enable pre-ordering and should not be taken as any kind of indication as to what the actual price will be.

Funny, I have been pondering the exact same thing as the OP. In the end I concluded that the only reason I lusted after the Sensation was to get Sense 3.0. Since there are indications that the DHD may get an official version of Sense 3.5 (lock screen and the home screen carousel) or at the least plenty of ROMs that can deliver similar or better I decided not to go to the expense of jumping forward one htc generation. The SGS2 has a magnificent display and is nice and lightweight but I remain unimpressed by touchwiz. But after looking closely at what I use my phone for I can't justify shelling out the readies for a new handset until the DHD struggles to run the OS and Apps I choose to use. In the same way as I skipped 2 generations going from the Hero to the DHD, I will look to do the same with the DHD and what htc announces soon (or its Samsung equivalent).

I know this goes contrary to the Geek creed of jumping on the next new thing as soon as it appears, but when you factor in a new tablet (not 100% convinced by my new iPad) and upgrading the house media system, dollars must be prioritised.

Edit: Added touchwiz comment.

I am in a bit of a geek dilemma.

The Note attracts me as it can be a half way point between a smartphone and a tablet. This means two devices in the one.

On the other hand, it may be too big to carry around, especially the pockets from time to time.

I think the Note rocks. One of my bugbears with smartphones is the battery life and the Note is bigger so has a bigger battery so ...

The screen is probably big enough as a second choice video player.

You could probably get it in a pocket?

I would go not with a blue tooth headset so you don't look stupid holding it up to your ear.

I can see myself buying one in future.

I have had an original Desire for a while now, Liked the look and feel of the Nexus S, Galaxy S design never impressed me although the Galaxy S2 has started looking very nice recently, Started to like the Galaxy Note once I heard about it as I would prefer something larger where possible.

Touchwiz would be a BIG downside for me as I have gotten to love the standard Gingerbread U.I of Cyanogen 7 recently although I originally liked Sense.

The Nexus Prime is starting to look very interesting depending on what it turns out like and when it is released.

I think if your coming from a DHD (and like it) the Sensation would be better. But yea both good, i just found the SGS2 un interesting.

I respect the specs on the Galaxy S2 and I think it deserves to be the #1 smart phone in the world at present. HTC comes with better build quality and overall I like HTC Sense.

This is why I am now considering the Sensation XE. It might not be a significant upgrade for current Sensation owners, but it represents a decent upgrade for an DHD user.

Doesn't HTC have a press release in a couple of days to announce new phones? I may wait before deciding on the XE, to see what else they have up their sleeves!
