I upgraded it last time using this thread.

Today I got a txt from Telecom saying that my phone needs to be upgraded to fix an issue with replying to txts sent from a short code. Now I can't txt or call.

There's instructions to upgrade here.

Kies says "This device's version cannot be updated." Model: GT-I5500L Version: JP2

Not a help fixing the problem, but this should be a warning to people considering installing a third party ROM. At some point versions will differ and updates won't be available.

Let's see if someone here can help getting the device back on the original ROM or fool it into upgrading.

Download the Check Fus Downloader GUI from here
http://fus.nanzen.se/

Enter the build details of the stock 2.1 rom, download the file, then extract the .tar file and flash with Odin.

If you don't know the build details for the stock 2.1 rom, I'm sure there's someone else on gz who will know.

I did pretty much this exact process with a Galaxy S, very useful for returning to stock.

^ Thanks, I might have to do that :/

The 2.1 update is here.

Any idea why nobody else has had this problem? The phone was fine until Telecom recommended the update; The instructions say "We recommend that you complete this upgrade, but if you feel your phone is working how you want it to you may decide not to go ahead with this upgrade."

This is the latest rom from Argentina - maybe that's worth a go.

www.samfirmware.com have the best selection of firmwares for Samsung devices you might find telecom official rom there.

Post back and let us know how you get on.

It will be because you flashed a non-telecom nz rom. Because of this, Kies doesn't know that it is a Telecom NZ phone (or was, rather) and does not match it with the Telecom NZ froyo build.

In other words, flashing a rom other than an official Telecom one will make your phone no longer an official Telecom phone, and therefore cannot be upgraded to official firmware through Kies.

Edit - this can be worked around by following the process I mentioned above. Putting the phone back on stock firmware will enable it to be updated to the new Telecom rom in Kies.

Just a FYI I just upgraded my non customized phone to the latest I5503 release.

The pertinent values for FUS that would be useful are:

PDA: I5503TDOJP4
Phone: I5503TDOJP3
CSC: I5503TTNZJP2

Latest firmware: I5503TDOJP4/I5503TTNZJP2/I5503TDOJP3/I5503TDOJP4
Modified: 13/07/2011 10:15:43 p.m.
Filename: GT-I5503T_TNZ_1_20110713221539.zip.enc2

Hi all,
Has the sleeping/not coming out of standby problem been fixed yet?
Cheers.

I dropped my phone into the Telecom store and they sent it away to do the froyo upgrade - that was about a month ago. I received that reminder text on Monday as well, so it must be a mass text out to all 550 owners - I just ignored it.

People have reported it fixing the comas, yes (on the contrary, the quoted link says there are still problems. It also fixes the wifi issue.

Yeah, I think everyone got it. There's only two official Android fw versions right? 2.1 & 2.2(Froyo). What's odd is the instructions say that this update also contains fixes for Froyo.
