I'm thinking of buying the S2, but can't bear the thought of that large beautiful screen getting scratched, so my natural inclination is to slap a screen protector on. They say gorilla glass is unscratchable, so I'm keen to get feedback for anyone with a S2 who hasn't used a screen protector. Is there anyone out there running around with a naked S2 screen? How's is it bearing up? How long have you used it without a screen protector?

Ive had mine since it came out and its never had a case on it.

I just double checked and there isnt a single scratch on the screen.
Im not a 'clumsy' person tho.

As for the camera. I use it pretty much every day at work and its still taking awesome pictures (ie, camera glass is all good)

There is 1 scratch on the plastic backing, and there is a line where it has been wearing down on the top of the external speaker on the back (Cause it sits lowest, it touch the table/whatever first)

Edit:
Since it came out = world release, not NZ's. So probably about 4 months

I always use my phones with protection (no sniggering down there in the back). My SGSII screen is pristine despite that, and I got it at release (what's that? 4-5months now?). I'm careful with my phones though, nothing else goes in the same pocket and I don't take them to the beach (I have an old Nokia for that!). Gorilla glass is good, but sand in pockets is the main cause for scratches that I've seen reported in forums here and there. If you're fairly careful with your phones then I don't think its a must, but some people just can't feel reassured without a screen protector on there and obviously for them its better to slap one on than live with perpetual unease that they might drop their phone.

Gorilla glass is great, while it's not totally unscratahable it is certainly amazing compared to regular plastic screens, and I'd never buy a phone again without it.

The only problem is if it has a significant impact it will shatter, just ask any of the iPhone4 owners who have ever dropped their phone! I dropped my LG Optimus Black a month ago and ended up needing a new phone.

I tried using the Zagg invisible skin and ended up removing it. The Screen feels silky without a protector and sticky with it, and I found it interfered with the swipe action.

No scratches on my launch phone. Loving Gorilla glass, just treat your phone like it is a $1000,00 piece of equipment

Previously had Galaxy S. No protector. No issues.

Have an SGS2 now for several days. Not going to put anything on it.

Gorilla Glass IS very good, but I still dont put phone in with keys or anything likely to cause problems.

+1 for treating like a $1000 piece of equipment.

Tend to keep my SGS in a microfibre sun glasses pouch...works really well and I always have a cleaning cloth

I have a friend who has been demonstrating the gorilla glass on his galaxy s to his customers for about a year now. He does it by getting a craft knife, and tapping and scratching the screen (with reasonable force).

It's been about a year and it's in good condition aside from fingerprint marks all over it.

I've only seen one guy who has managed to scratch it, and to be honest I think it may have been because he was using it to level out a ladder or something. On gravel. Made out of sharp volcanic rock. With John Goodman standing on the ladder.

+1 again.. I was a HUGE fan of protectors until I got my HTC Sensation 7 weeks ago, And I'm a truck driver (meat-fingers!)

Not a mark on because I treat it "nice" , it's the only thing ever in that pocket (learnt that the hard way with HTC Vogue)

And the feel... mmmmmmm

I never use a screen cover or case.

I just make sure the phone is always in a pocket by itself. No coins. No keys. Nothing. If it MUST go into a bag, then I pop it into a zip-lock "Glad" sandwich bag. This keeps out sand, dust, food crumbs and stops anything else touching it when I'm not using it. It also keep it dry if I get caught in the rain.

If my phone is in my shirt pocket I don't jump around trying to touch overhead things (and risk my phone popping out). I know a guy who wrecked his week-old Nexus One that way. :-)

If you THINK about what you're doing.....you don't need cases and screen covers.

But a lot of people seem to need them. :-)

The glass on the LG Optimus 3D is very nice.

I was surpised.....feels like it's slidey-oiled....but it isn't. Hadn't even occurred to me until I realised it was probably the best glass I;ve used to date.

I also demonstrate gorilla glass to customers by jamming on it with my keys. It's great, freaks some people out. Had my galaxy s for about 3/4 year now, only one tiny scratch - and that was caused by my cat's claws, not even the keys :D

I dropped my SGS one the other day on the street. The only major damage was a dent on the side. But the glass was did not break

I have a screen protector on my HTC Sensation, but just because I'm being a bit over-protective, like a new parent taking their kid to the playground for the first time. I'm sure once they've come down the slide a few times and had a swing or two I'll take it off.

Of course the problem with the HTCs is that the screen is slightly concave; the gorilla glass is beveled out at the edges so you can put the phone face down on a desk, etc. and the main part of the screen doesn't touch the desktop. This is good for helping prevent scratches (assuming it doesn't sit in the same pocket as your Leatherman Skeletool the rest of teh time) but does mean screen protectors don't sit properly at the raised edges.
