It seems that people managed to get Google Wallet working with variants of the Samsung Nexus S other than Sprint's Nexus 4G (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1284517), there are people reporting it working in different countries. At the moment, it should work with any MasterCard Paypass machine, which I think a few merchants in NZ are also accepting. I wonder if anyone has tried it already? Does it work? If anyone knows any shop in Auckland CBD that accepts Paypass, I think I'll give it a try.

Is Mt Eden too far? My cafe has Paypass which you could try it on.

I just installed Google Wallet on my Nexus S, and now I have a Master card number assigned to me, as well as $10 (which maybe $10US?).

The set up process took around 5 minutes, with a lot of waiting for Google to allocate my Mastercard number.

Now I want to go and try it!

Application seems quite good/secure, it asks for my PIN number every time I open the app. I can also turn on/off the debit card so that I don't make unnecessary purchases.
(making it more secure maybe than Visa and Mastercards new wireless NFC credit/debit cards?)

Google Wallet also comes with Google Shopper, an app that allows you to scan barcodes/search products and find the nearest shop/price.

I scanned a 2B8 hardcover book, and it told me that the Warehouse has it for $8.64. I'm impressed, especially because it says it is only supposed to work in the UK and US.

Anywhere else apart from Mac D's have NFC? Shouldn't all the new version Eftpos terminals have NFC? Or was that an extra feature which was optional/more expensive?

NFC terminals aren't mandatory in NZ until 2014, with a timeframe around October 2012 where a large number of retailers such as supermarkets etc are required to have at least 1 NFC terminal.

NZ is a long way behind some other markets, in Aussie virtually every Visa and Mastercard issued is now NFC capable, and there are over 40000 terminals in the marketplace.

Also, I found a handy app from Mastercard called Paypass Locator.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mastercard.paypass

It show about half a dozen NFC eftpos terminals in Wellington. MCD not one of them.

Yes capable but enabled? I'm sure they are, but would be good to hear from someone who has actually used them via NFC.

From my discussions with our bank (ASB) we are one of the first merchants to get it.

Our POS installer mentioned it is an optional extra, and we received it because we lease our eftpos machine.  If you have already invested in an older machine which won't support, and not many customers have it, it won't make any economical sense to buy a reader.

Damn, I had to wipe my phone to get this to work. I really hate wiping my phone, even with the help of Titanium Backup, it's still such a hassle.

I can't wait to try it out now.

Hi All,

I live in New Zealand and I have installed Google Wallet on my Xperia S running DooMLoRD pre-rooted 6.2.B.0.211 (Jelly Bean Rom). Android 4.1.2.

I am on 2degrees prepay network

I can do the following:
  1. I can open the app fine(provided that NFC is turned on)
  2. I can see all the credit cards loaded onto my google wallet online account and select which card i want as my default
  3. I can see all the transactions made from my Google wallet online
  4. Pretty much the app functions sweet with problems

However when I go to pay at a NFC efposs terminal in New Zealand it comes up with declined.

When I go to make the purchase my phone vibrates and says processing or something along those lines the NFC efposs  terminal says processing then comes up with declined.

Why does it keep coming up with declined?

I have tried more than one terminal (different stores), i have enough money in my account, i can use that same google account to buy stuff online in the play store with no issues and I am using a visa debit NFC card as the default card on the wallet app.

Is there something more i have to do to get it working??

HELP!!!!
