I upgraded my SGS to 2.3.3 with gingerbread but it doesnt matter what i upgrade with when i leave Auckland i have no signal at all, and its more like when i head to the outskirts of Auckland it wont work which is bad as i need my phone for business.

Can anyone help me fix this please?

You're not using a Vodafone SGS on Telecom are you?

That would fit what you describe. When you can't see 2100MHz WCDMA...you're off the reservation with a VFNZ phone on Telecom because Telecom doesn't do GSM at all and your phone can't see the 850MHz WCDMA frequency they use outside the cities and you'd be relying 100% on 2100MHz...or nothing.

So what image did you load, if it was not official you may not have the correct radio baseband config, ie its defaulted to BandVIII, I am sure others can clarify this.

Sounds like when you did the flash update you may have included incorrect modem firmware also - so now it is only picking up 2100MHz freq. First this link may give you some joy:

It looks a bit scary but it really isn't :)

Currently mine is set to automatically choose between 2100, 850, and 1700MHz (Basically everything except 900MHz)

If that doesn't work you might need to look at flashing a different modem firmware on, and I think there is a thread on GZ which covers that off

That certainly was the problem, because Telecom is 850 MHz mainly with very small 2100 MHz coverage in some centres just for capacity.

Hi, yes exactly, XT(Telecom) operate a 850/2100MHz network but the 2100 is only in CBD areas, as soon as you move away its 850 only. Voda operate 900/2100 with similar issues of 2100 being not everywhere. so in your situation the firmware had reverted to a 900/2100 config that would have left you with no 850 XT service and your XT sim naturally not letting you on Vodas 900 network.

I can upload the official Telecom Ginger build for you tomorrow if needed. Includes correct modem firmware to re-enable the 850 UMTS band.

I did what was in here however the phone flashed but didnt come up empty if you get me like all my apps and stuff were there, should it have pretty much wiped it all?

I went upto Orewa and again no luck didnt work :(
