This looks to be a very simple way to root a variety of phones. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582

I havent tried it myself but might be of use to others.

I've downloaded this and will sit on it until someone reports back that it work's on a Galaxy I5503T running froyo.

The only reason I want to root my phone is to delete the marketupdater apk so when I remove the Market 3.1.5 update it doesn't just update again next time I'm online - 3.1.5 runs like a dog on my phone.

Jump onto XDA and ask in the thread, you might get an answer there.
