I found fusion was a battery hog as it has lots of eye candy, but that was a very old version, have not used the new one. Dronix was good but it had a problem where you couldnt set wallpapers through quickpic which was annoying. Leandroid was really stable and reasonably fast. It doesnt have a fancy kernel but is tweaked and has very few apps installed so has lots of space for user apps. I often got over 3 days battery life with leandroid.
I have now switched to ideos HD as it is fast with custom kernel and looks good too. Everything works and battery life is ok. Get 2 days out of it. It also has the quick gps fix that leandroid misses and with nofrills cpu control I can set it for speed or battery life. It is android 2.2.2 and seems the best to me.

Cheers Paul. Thanks for the input I'll give Hd a try.

Fusion has now been discontinued and the market doesn't update!

If you go with HD, flash 1.6.1 first then start it up and do initial setup, then flash 1.6.2 update. Caused me a few heart stopping moments when I flashed them both at the same time and phone crashed on boot.

Edit: also market is sometimes fast to update and sometimes not. Current HD rom came through day after I flashed it and previous one I messed up took a little longer if I remember rightly.

Can't really go too wrong with either.

If you think the launcher included is too flashy/heavy, just install Zeam from the market.
