I'm sure on my old Ideos X5 I could still browse on the phone while it was acting as an AP for my laptop. With my Galaxy SII while I'm tethering I can't do any local browsing or updates.

Can someone else confirm if other android handsets allow browsing with tether active.

I've confirmed this isn't specific to my phone by testing another handset in a Telecom shop.

If you set your phone apps to use wifi only and then turn on your wifi hotspot, your browsing on the phone and via any tethered device is through the 3G.... so those wifi-only apps won't work unless they can support data over 3G or you have enabled it if it was turned off.

With tether turned off I can browse over 3G, with tether turned on with a Telecom XT Handset i can't browse direct on the handset.

We also tried this on a brand new phone in the shop so it looks like an issue specific to the Telecom S2 handsets.

Please forgive me if this is obvious, but could it be an APN issue?

Just for the record Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10i v2.3.3 on Vodafone network.

I can browser from the mobile when the phone is tethered,

Tethered using USB _and_ WiFi (802.11g) at the same time, I'm still able to browse from the mobile phone.

I browsed the following on the mobile which stated that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Acro and Arc have become Playstation certified in Japan. No word on the status of the XPERIA Arc status outside of Japan.
The Sony Ericsson Play, Sony Tablet S/ Tablet P round out the only other current Android systems with certification.

Ya for tethering.

If you read this, it was posted while tethered.

PS. Oh and while tethered via USB I did test with mobile data on the phone disabled and actively connected to home Telecom Broadband via WiFi, I was still able to browse on the local home LAN and/or Internet.

Looks like this is specific to the Telecom firmware on the S2. I'm going to raise this with Samsung and Telecom.

I had this same issue on my Telecom SGSII and it even happened after flashing Batista KI8 custom rom - however it started working after I flashed an XXKI4 rom Checkrom Revolution.
