This model is available through a number of outlets in NZ but Samsung NZ does not recognise it because it is parallel imported.
They cannot even answer simple questions like "Where does one get help and support for Samsungdive?" because "Your phone is not an NZ phone."  or "Sorry, we don't have that model."
You cannot register the product on their web site, and that site is where all NZ internet users are directed when they try to go to SAMSUNG.COM.

I don't really have an issue with that as they are only protecting the firms that are suppporting them here in NZ. If I owned a business and one of my suppliers helped people with imported goods they wouldn't be supplying me after that.

As to Samsung Dive, surely there is a lot of info on net about it, thought you were using prey anyway.

I am still using Prey.
I recently had to reset the device to factory defaults and while I was restoring etc I saw that SAMSUNG issued an official Gingerbread for the I9003. So I decided to drop my custom ROM and go with the upgrade via Kies.
Having done that I was curious as to whether or not I could make use of Samsungdive.

As for the imported goods issue, the phone is a Samsung, and Samsung NZ is part of the Samsung group.
It's not like I asked them to help me with a Nokia.
My question was about a Samsung web site.

Based on what I see on the web there are quite f few people experiencing problems with that site.

Typical meaningless numpty pc comment.

The handsets are all made in Korea.

Mine was purchased from a local outlet whose owners are probably more kiwi than you or I.

Unfortunate situation. However, this has always been pretty common in NZ - we don't get the ridiculous amounts of models (particularly cell phones, but this applies to basically everything) that other, more populous nations do. Not sure if I've ever seen the qwerty Galaxy sliders around, for example (the ones that are literally an i9000 with a keyboard, not the lower models like the chat).

Actually I'm with John and Jeff on this..... But, taking your side for now....
How about you go back to you 100%pure Kiwi retailer and get the support from him that you pay for in the price of the the device.
Isn't that how you'd expect it to work if you purchased thru an official channel????

Support, warranty, etc etc are provided by the manufacturer, not the supplier.

If someone migrates to NZ and brings with them a branded name product from an international company would you deny them support just because they didn't buy it in NZ?

You are incorrect when you purchased the handset you made a contract with the retailer that is who you handed the cash to and who supports you as a customer

Samsung globable: We have sent 10000 (Z number) phones to our nz suppliers, our samsung NZ branch is going to next X amount for support and warranties.

Im going to pick a name people know. How is this different from importing something from IKEA...there is no local store. Do you email them and complain about there being no local support? No. Because its imported.

Ikea is an example. I did hear they are coming over here, not 100% sure if they have made it yet.

I agree with John. I import my expensive stuff. I prefer to support local but cant always afford it. With that I accept 9 / 10 times ill have warranty issues.
Your numpty comment was uncalled for.

If I buy Microsoft software, I expect support from Microsoft.
If I buy an HP PC, I expect support from HP.
If I buy a Samsung phone, I expect support from Samsung.

I bought an HP laptop in South Africa and had no issues at all getting support from the local HP agent here in Auckland.

An international company has responsibility to its clients regardless of where the goods were purchased.

Incorrect under NZ law your support is place of purchase! If you import or purchase from a parallel importer a product you have nothing to fall back on apart from the retailer that you handed your money over to!

I will say again this is NZ LAW <-- You can't change this cause you think you should get support

Never had problems getting support from international firms, such as Seagate, HP, Dell, Logitech,  for goods purchased online or overseas.

They even pay for shipping in some cases.

I actually bought the Samsung SL GT-I9003 because I thought it was among the best on the market and because I had never had any problems with Samsung in the past.

I just feel that Samsung NZ is being a bit insular.
