Every time you go to any big company website you see "We have an I-phone or I-pad app aren't we wonderful" Try to find an Android app for them and you get fobbed off with, well that's only a small part of the market in New Zealand.

This really annoys me, ANZ has been running a add campain for months talking about how in touch they are. What a load of rubbish.

What are your thoughts on this topic?

I have the ASB Android app installed.

But seriously, yes Android seems to be second best - though this is slowly changing, perhaps thanks to their growing popularity.

If you are aware of an outfit offering an iApp without offering an Android equivalent, kick up a stink. It's only by demonstrating demand that anything will change.

The ANZ app on iPhone is awesome but io would like to have it on Android 2

also, where are the symbian/blackberry/windows mobile/windows phone 7 apps?

its apparently only cool to make iphone apps for a large number of companies.

nb, the Rugby World Cup app was delivered for iphone/ipad/blackberry/blackberry playbook/android/windows phone 7

Yellow, Subway, AirNZ have apps for iphone/android/wp7

BNZ launched an android app and an iphone app

Take the stats listed on this blog: http://blog.jericho.co.nz/tag/android-market-share-nz/
there are still, apparently, 100,000 more iphones than android phones here in NZ. Each app costs money to build - so they likely cant build for every platform. I guess that they are simply picking the top one, or two.

One thing I will say is that the mPass AirNZ app on Android looks and feels a lot smoother and cleaner compared to iOS.

I am not surprised as most companies don't have the resources to support multiple platforms. However, im confused to why Trademe, a very well resourced company, doesn't support Android yet.

BNZ started dishing out iPhones to staff about six months ago, to replace Blackberrys as phones and for receiving company emails etc. Quite recently it has announced to staff that it is concerned about data security on iPhones and that it will be moving to Android phones next year, once Ice Cream Sandwich phones are available.

BNZ also has a great Android app for online banking for customers.

I have been waiting since Sky released their IOS app for the android equivalent. Their FAQ on their website dated April says they are working on on an android app but we are still waiting. Very frustrating!

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I prefer good mobile sites rather than specific 'apps'!

IMO the Trademe iOS app is absolute crap anyway.  I agree these companies need to wake up to the smart device revolution.  I wonder if there is some money in it for the bigger companies only supporting iOS?  Is there a backhand in there somewhere perhaps?

Blame Apples marketing.
Most people think iphone are all there is.

App development is a little above my skill level, but once you have had an app developed for one platform how difficult is it to port to another OS? I would have thought the structure would be the same just the syntax would change.

I've been checking iOS apps out and it's very different to Android... Half the reason I bought a iPhone

I'm waiting for Android ANZ app as well.  Annoys me that they are not supporting Android.  I wrote and asked them about it and they said there were no plans fo an android version.  Trademe is another example as the app that is avalible is not very good.
