Hi fellow geekzoners..

I have a Samsung Galaxy GT-I9000T and a HTC Sensation, both Andriod 2.3.3 phones...

I want to use the tracking for that, "what if" situation where you could loose your phone,

Has anybody had any experience with it?

I've set up the HTC with it, but the website cant find my phone and none of the other functionality works,

so HTC Sensation with http://htcsense.com isn't working currently, fail

Any input ?

So turns out..

Samsung market there solution called Mobile Tracker, but once you get onto the website..

"This feature is not supported in your country"

Booo Samsung !

I'm trying out Avast! Mobile Security BETA. Allows the anti-theft portion to be installed at root. The Anti-theft portion is based on software (Theft Aware) purchased from the AVAST acquisition of ITAgents. Seems to run ok so far, but haven't given it a really thorough test - hoping to have the time to do that in a few weeks. not a great deal of memory overhead, which is good.

is samsungdive.com not supported for your particilar phone model? its pretty good if it is... i use it on my i9100

I've been using AVG anti-virus on my phone, allows you to remotely locate your phone, lock and wipe it. I haven't tried the wiping feature but the location and lock features work for me.

I've used "Where's my droid". Does what you'd expect it to plus a bit more.

I use LMaxitheft.
I played with most of the others and decided a text message with coordinates was of more use. The coordinates can be used on any computer, another smartphone, a car Nav device, etc. The online tracking programmes had too much baggage and delay.
LMaxitheft texts my authorised phone with the last dialed numbers when the sim gets replaced.

Use the Seekdroid app. You can control and track your device via the net or via SMS using another phone. Paid app but only $1 from memory.

I've yet to figure out why this is, my SII, 9100 works just fine with this service, my wifes s9000 does not, same error, go figure, one phone says the service is avaliable in NZ, one phone says it isn't

Using Lookout on my phone.

Did test it ages ago and seem to remember it found my phone. I'll check again in a few minutes.

Did have a look at Avast, but found it giving (what I consider) false virus alerts on Z4Root on my Android TV box.
Avast is in Beta stage so 'respect', for it's current state.

Now moved to NetQin which has Anti-lost (sounds like something you'd get on a car to stop it skidding)
I've not worried about setting up the box for Anti-lost as it has no GPS or IMEI, does have Ethernet MAC though.
However not sure anyone has build Ethernet MAC-track for my Android box in thief's backpack yet.

Someone may like to report on there "findings" with NetQin as I just looked at it cause it started with the letters 'Net', read it was an anti-virus and downloaded it. Haven't even Google'd it.
Looking at NetQin application, it has a lot more functionality and monitoring features than I've seen in other security apps I've looked at.

OK, Lookout... hmmm,

Login online, it's tracking my contacts, lists which ones I've deleted/changed. Wasn't expecting that, not worried though, probably forgot I 'OK' the backup/restore of my contacts.
Lists all the virus scans I've made and the results.

Anyway, scanned for my phone and even without GPS on it located it in the suburb I'm currently in, in minutes and seems to be refining the position closer to my physical position. Using mobile masts (my guess) it's got within 100metres of me. All good.

Lookout found my android tablet just now, even though GPS is turned off. I think it uses WiFi access points to work it out.

I thought it was just triangulating on the phone signal and then sending/working off that. The reason I say that is when one looks at the available mobile masts in ones area it places me in the identical position on that map too, which is approx 100m away from my true physical location.

I'm guessing your tablet has a 3G data SIM in it.

I'm not sure my WiFi access point is known, unless Google did a very good job of mapping them all and if that was the case my Access point seems to have moved 100m down the road which implies it's more than likely it's not using WiFi AP.

Mine doesn't have 3G, all it had to go by was WiFi. GPS is turned off. I imagine it works the location out using standard Android methods.

I think google did map all the WiFi access points when it did street view.
