Hi there,

I am looking for a weather app that works properly on Android. I havent really looked into this but I am only using the built in weather app that comes with Android, so nothing spectacular. While its easy to use it doesnt really offer many features and the temperature is always 2/3 degrees off what it really is.

So yeah, what do you use? :)

All the apps seem to get their data from a random number generator. NZ Met Service mobile site as per the link above is best. I have the icon on my android home screen.

I Use

Android Market AccuWeather.com

Android Market Palmary Weather

cause they're Android apps, have pretty pictures and I'm to slack to create a free standing bookmark to http://m.metservice.com/

Opps found a met office bookmark I must have created earlier.

Also have Android Market AIX Weather Widget installed as it has some interesting graphics showing....RAIN!!! and the temperature over the next 24hrs.

Have a powered Android box with Ethernet connected to the TV, thus all the weather apps

I just checked the temp of all five for Hamilton NZ for Sunday.

Now:

Met = 14.9C
Palmary = 16C
AccuWeather = 16C
Resident weather app = 16C
AIX Weather = 16.3C

All say it's raining and easing to showers towards Sunday evening but the Met office is the only one saying I should be wearing sun cream(?????)

Both Palmary and AccuWeather say there'll be thunder between 11:00-19:00pm (Palmary) 13:00-16:00(AccuWeather)

Met office just says, "Rain turning to showers. Strong southeasterlies."

All say the same wind speed give or take a couple of km/h

Both Palmary and AccuWeather displays a cute little temp reading in the top status line and when it updates it displays the current conditions (AccuWeather) for a minute and then back to just the temp.

My default weather app, which is I guess what one is using too, seems to be in the ball park with 'predictions' too. It also does a nice little news feed if you like, or you can disable it.

Guess it's just a matter of installing a few you'd like to test and then delete the ones you're not going to use.

I use accuweather. It has a large selection of locations including the small place I live in. Try a few and I'm sure you will find an acceptable one.

I just found WeatherPro yesterday and I think its the best app I have seen so far, doesnt do radar in NZ yet but does satellite maps.

Also does nice stuff like 3 hourly forecasts

My inbuilt weather widget showed the time wrong and that was enough for me to get annoyed and get rid of it. Might try some of those mentioned above now.

Not sure on any exclusively Android apps, but have found that while many weather apps may look cool and have awesome features, they are often completely wrong and bare no resemblance to any official forecast for NZ towns and cities (or the actual weather on the day in those places).

Had 2 installed and the forecasts were most often completely different to each other, so not sure where the data was coming from. Have now gone back to the good old Metservice mobile website. Just dropped a shortcut on the home screen...easy peasy.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Beautiful Widgets did feature late last year in Google's 10c apps promotion, so presumably it is/was worthy of selection. Of course, that doesn't help you if you didn't buy it then, of course!

The application does feature as one of the "free gold applications" on GetJar - I'm not entirely sure exactly how GetJar works from a funding model, but as far as I can tell it seems to be legit...

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!
