After my last write up or whatever I thought I'd ask if you guys want a proper guide on how to build ROMs for any device. If you want one let me know here and if there's enough that do I'll write one up. I couldn't find any proper guides at all on the net so..And I don't mean a guide on how to get a stock rom and give root permissions. I mean a proper custom rom

That sounds like a fantastic idea! I'd be in for that.

Does that mean you are taking requests for particular devices? cough** Huawei IDEOS X5 U8800 **cough.
;-)

I'd be keen to give it a go if I knew how. Especially if it means getting 4.0/ICS on my X5.

Thanks in advance.

I think a guide like this wouldn't attract as much "fire" as the other other, simply because it has a well defined objective.

I thought the other discussion had ended by now with moving the topic to the correct sub forum and changing the subject to something closer to what the post is.

Exactly.  I don't think I'd ever want to make my own myself but I'd love to read about about and understand the process.

I hope that my above comment wasn't taken in the wrong context. It was meant in tongue and cheek.
Although, I suspect that jeffnz's comment may have been in reference to another thread of which I am not aware of. Maybe someone can enlighten me?

In any case, I would just like to reiterate my thanks again to CdTDroiD for this awesome offer.
I am really looking forward to getting my hands dirty cooking up some ROMs. :-)

hahaha no worries the process is fairly much the same regardless of the device depending on how you want to extract the base but i will explain. I wont get into XML editing and .Smali editing because thats a whole other ball park lol, what the guide will do is show you how to cook a rom like most do on XDA the difference between that and a recognized developer is the java code writing etc.. :) most devs on xda are more like chefs than devs which is fine also because you get variety but some are just crap.
