I love the freaking jebus out of my LG Optimus 3D. Can't see myself ever buying another 'flat' phone.

Therefore....I am overjoyed to see there will be a successor.

More-er and better-er.

(Fixed the link. Sorry).

And best of all, it's rumoured to be launching with Gingerbread...!

...and even better LG has said all their existing high-end phones (including the Optimus 3D) will be getting Android 4.0 in the next few months. This is, apparently, why they have sidelined the planned Android 2.3 update.....so people can go straight to version 4.0.

Whatever....I like this phone enough just as it is that I haven't bothered rooting it or messing with it.

Thanks for this ....Awesome, looks good :-)
I have been using XDA developers
I have updated my Optimus 3D with Gingerbread using European Rom 21B
I have also updated My LG Thrill 3D to the Brazil 3D Rom 20A (I got 3G video calling :-) cause the AT@T stock Rom did not have this)
It's nice to have GB on both phones

I do love this Phone :-)

I have the Telecom XT / Rogers version (P925G). Would the ROM you have work with that? I guess it only needs to NOT change the radio image.

I believe the frequencies  are same the AT&T version
Yes i was worried about the frequencies
Im not with telecom, but it's working just as well on Vodafone for calls and data  with the 2.3 gb as what the stock AT&T with android 2.2 froyo
I did have to reboot the phone using the power on and volume up trick after I installed the KDZ file
All I did was change the APN settings... I used Vodafones website and the settings were sent as a sms

I've been hanging out for the legit update mainly because I don't want the 3D functionality compromised or broken. It's the main reason I use the phone and it works really well as is.

But if LG release an updated phone, the Optimus 3D II, I may just buy that instead...and see if I ever do get an update for this existing model.

I have an HTC Sensation which is kept very up to date by HTC and Lenovo seem to be doing a good job with two OTA updates to Android v3.1 installed on my IdeaPad K1 tablet in the past month alone.

I understand ... Im a novice and thought I had bricked my phone upgrading to GB 2.3

At the moment, I do think that the 3D images ARE better with GB 2.3 than with 2.2
Im happy with the update.. no real glitches apart from battery drain overnight to zero
My phone woould not go past the opening boot sequence in the morning , it kept on looping...I think I left the Wifi on and speak to it assistant on ...drained it bad !!

I just got 3 batteries from Ebay $11.99 USD  today... took 45 days from Hong Kong... I was supposed to get a charger
(I have a Universal charger I can use) the seller refunded me the whole amount... Awesome !!

5MP aint bad for photo's to share online.... It would be nice to have Optimus 3D II to be 8MP or more

Yes the Brazil 3D Rom 20A will work for the Rogers P925G phone for Telecom XT in NZ. I have the same phone, and updated a couple of weeks ago. The Battery life is better than stock, there's no ghost calls, and 3G works perfectly. The way I tested the 3G is by accessing the hidden menu, and changing between 2100MHZ, and 850MHZ. Both allow calls and data. The only hitch is that you have to change your system language to english after loading the ROM because it is Brazillian by default.

Thanks! I'll have a look at it. I'd like to be able to return to stock later, if possible. I haven't rooted the LG phone so far. Most of my rootin' n' flashin' has been with Huawei, HTC and ACER phones.

LG 3D aye... I wonder what Google earth with it's 3D features looks like. Laughing

I would like to see ICS on mobiles released later this year, as it'd give me hope that one could then advance beyond Android 4.0.3 as newer releases come out. But that's just me thinking as a bitter and twisted man cause my phones life cycle stopped at Android 2.3.3 and without a CM release to date either.

The Sony XPERIA S on sale early March is mooted to have Android 4.0 on it.

[geek on]

Any idea what GPU the LG 3D device will use? The current model has a PowerVR SGX540 which is only really 'OK' to middling in terms of where development is today.
And I'd expect with 3D and hardware acceleration the GPU would need as much go-go as it can get.
A mooted 1.2GHz dual core processor doesn't indicate a GPU much above what it's got now.

If one extrapolates anything from this using 1.2GHz TI OMAP as an indicator it suggests the GPU will be the same, but just running a higher clock.

Just to put that in perspective, the Samsung Galaxy S released almost two years ago had a PowerVR SGX540 in it.
And if Moores law still holds, a GPU released today should be well over twice as powerful as a PowerVR SGX540.

OMAP 5 now has a dual-core PowerVR SGX544MP which indicates support for 20 megapixel cameras for front and rear 3D HD video recording and 60FPS Full HD 1080p playback (The real stuff).

That's almost like trying to strap two iPhone 4S together and make them process as one.

Kind of makes yer brain implode just trying to think about it.

And if Android's OS advances to be able to use such a GPU and it's 2GHz dual core processor and battery life becomes more than blink and you missed it and people are seen flying over New York City and... hang on, people have been seen flying over NYC....

[/geek off]

But if one reads between the lines this release of the LG 3D Max may be more about refinement and functionality than raw horse power. And for most people thats enough.

Guess time will tell.

LG Optimus 3D to be called 3D MAX

The Optimus 3D has a "tri-dual" internal setup that appears to get rid of some of the bottlenecks that can happen in competing architectures. In relative terms the phone is lower spec than the top end - including the HTC Evo 3D....but in absolute terms I have found it to be 'good enough' (tm). :-)
