Hello people,

I'm newb on Android and just bought Galaxy S GTI9000 and I'm Vodafone user.

I do know its international version and I realised that phone is unlock as I can see my simcard works.(can see my contacts)

Also I can see signal bar is working/moving up and down.

Problem is I can not make a phone call or txt as soon as I click call to someone, it keep saying 'mobile network is not available.'

So I went to setting-network-Network searching and I could see Vodafone NZ but everytime I click it, it keeps saying unable to connect it, try later.

Then I went to computer, put Odin on screen, refreshed with Darky version and Xavju version from Chainfire but both are not really helped me.

I spent 9 hours on it today since Android is new field to me(me from Iphone) and I cannot make it happens.

WIFI is working, can do all sort of things with app but I simply can't make phone call.

Is it problem with Modem? I used MODEM-I9000UGJL2 as well but still I can't connect to mobile network and let it works.

Hope this is not hardware issue.....

Currently phone is on

Build number :Darky's rom JVQ v 10.2
Gingerbread firmware :2.3.4
Baseband version :I9000UGJL2
Kernel version ; 2/6/35/7-I9000XXJVQ-CL281085

Are you sure you don't have a i9000t?
Try changing it so it only uses 2g.
Also try a different modem, such as BUJP5 or BVJV3 or Srjv1. Google perkas file stash for modems in clock work mod zip files.

Hello there,

Thanks for your precious reply.

Yes it is not Galaxy S GTI9000T.

So is it problem causing by modem.tar?

What about build firmware? what fireware should I use it then? should I flush with Gingerbread 2.3.6 and put one of those modem instead?

Kind regards

Gouf

It sounds to me like your phone may be network locked (being able to see the contacts on your sim does not mean the phone is unlocked).

On the dialler, type in *#7465625# this will display the sim lock status. If the phone is locked, you will need to contact the provider for an unlock code. Alternatively you can check out chainfire's unlock solution for the galaxy s and see if that is compatible with your firmware version.

If it is not locked, you may just need to try different modem firmware. If it is an I9000, and NOT an I9000T, try BUJP5. Extract the modem.bin file and flash this in the PHONE section in Odin.

Let us know how you get on.

Where did you buy the phone from?

It certainly sounds like it's still SIM locked. if it is you will need to contact the operator that it's locked to to get it unlocked.

Hello there,

Thank you for your kind reply.

I typed that number on dialler and it says

Personalizatiob Status

Network Lock
Off

network Subset Lcok
off

SP lock
Off

CP lock
Off

But Still I can't get network connected.

I will try that BUJP5 modem and will post it here soon.

I bought it from TRADEME and that person told me works excellent with his phone company, '2 degree' and had no problem.

I did bit of researching and found out 2 degree network is actually using Vodafone network so should be works if he is telling me truth....

I will try that modem mentioned above line and get back to here with result soon.

Ahh that explains it all.

My pick is you've got a phone that's been barred from the Vodafone and XT networks, typically because it's stolen or reported lost or has been barred for another reason. This means it will only work on the 2degrees network but will NEVER work on XT or Vodafone as it's been barred.

There were a significant numbers of phones all sold a few months ago by a seller that have this issue, and several threads already here on Geekzone discussing this.

Hello people,

Thanks for being gracious(not sure its right grammar) and you guys are really helpful to me.

Firstly, I should tell I put my Vodafone prepay simcard, says 128K on it.

I tried  BUJP5 or BVJV3 or Srjv1 modem just now.

Instantly I did flush with Odin's but did not work, still says no mobile network.

To get better result, I intalled Signal widget that tells me how strong signal is then amazingly it keeps show average -97dbm to -104 dbm, which is quite average strrength in New Plymouth where I live. And guess what it keep saying 'No service' with sad Android pet face...

Secondly I did flush with CWM with three modems and still same result as above.

Thirdly, I put another Simcard(Monthly contract simcard, says prepay simcard with 128K on it)

I did both way, in odin and CWM but still same signal strength(there was deathgripping incident occured several times but its not the problem) and still keep saying 'No service' and can't make a single phone call.

Finally, on BVJP3 modem, I took a big risk, which is put 2 degree simcard(from girlfriend) and guess what....... It works like charming!!!!!!!!! And surprisingly widget shows 'Vodafone NZ' instead 'no Service'

Why 2 degree simcard works while vodafone simcards are not working at all? I thought 2 degree using Vodafone network...

Does anybody has idea why this is happening?

Well to be very honest, I use vodafone mainly so if my simcard is not working, its pointless to keep it...

But I can't give up on it, its such a great phone and I love Android!!

p.s. can it be relate with how old of simcard is? My vodafone simcard is older than 2degree simcard but I don't see the difference.....

I've explained why your phone is most likely not working.

It has in all liklehood been barred from the Vodafone and XT networks, in all probability because it's been reported stolen. If this is the case it will NEVER work on Vodafone or XT. No amount of firmware changes or hacks can fix this.

The 2degrees network is not the Vodafone network. I'm many areas a 2degrees SIM can roam on the Vodafone network but it's still accessing the 2d core network.

As Steve has pointed out sounds like the hndset is Blacklisted on the Vodafone and XT network,

If you like PM the IMEI number for the handset and will check tomorrow,

John

Sorry I couldn't understand with your first reply and now I understood.

So I guess this is problem phone... What should I do then? Sounds like I'm trapped or lost.....

Should I report that person to Trademe then?

Whether you report them would depend entirely on whether they have done anything wrong.

If they've said the phone works on 2degrees and it does then I'm not sure you've really got any ground to stand on.

On the other hand if they knowingly sold a stolen phone knowing that it will operate on the 2degrees network because they don't currently block handsets then you possibly do have a reason to complain.

Thanks for reply,

Auction was saying 'It also works on 2 degree' and when one of potential buyer asked question 'is it going to work on vodafone too?' and he said 'yes' that is the only reason I bought this phone.. And I emailed him and told him its not working and he told me that he did factory setting and follow what 2 degree company told to use phone.

So I'm in stucked now, paid some money and it doesn't work.... feel like want to cry but can't....:((((((
