Hi all.

I assumed Ingram Micro would be the NZ distributor but they don't seem to have the full range listed. Does someone else distribute them here?

Which retailers are usually the first in New Zealand to sell new model Asus tablets? I want to know who to be hitting up for info on price and availability of the Padfone as my preference is to buy locally rather than import one.

Cheers

Have you tried Synnex? I think Morningstar did, before they vanished.

Not as yet thanks. My impression was they only did PC components but I will enquire.

No one anywhere in the world has the info yet, ultimately I want to be notified by the product manager of our national distributor when NZ specific info is available.

Once info is available elsewhere, then I will harass JB/HN.

PBTech might be pretty quick off the mark.

Does Asus list distributors on their site?

And there we have it http://www.synnex.co.nz/about/index.htm

Thanks.

Does anyone have a Synnex account or even better the contact details for the product manager?

Spoke to a guy named Richard there a couple of years ago. Don't know if he's still there and didn't end up setting up an account. Thought an associate had an account with them but no luck there either.

Edit: Richard's role was listed as "Country Manager"

"To trial Synnex On-Line:

Please click here to send an email to our new accounts team along with your contact details including your name, company information, and phone numbers and we will make contact with you accordingly. Please note that Synnex only sell to resellers and will not deal with end users."

Down the bottom. Get ur own account - see if they let you.

Actually I was thinking about this today...for what will essentially be a netbook and at the price you're expecting to pay...it's not cheap.

I know you want the whole convergence thing, but can get get it with cloud bases services?

Yeah I know who Richard is. Doubt they will give me an account or give me any info being an "end user" but have sent a query anyway.

PBTech is probably my best bet.

Cheers.

What I want is a tablet. If I could replace my laptop and iPhone with a tablet that is exactly what I would do and it would suit my needs perfectly 95% of the time.

The problem is, taking a tablet to the pub as my only communication device is a hassle (and not "cool"). Owning an iPhone and an iPad when I can only use the near identical (excluding the screen) hardware one at a time is average. Buying a tablet and a cheap phone to take to the pub means 2 sim cards, 2 numbers, 2 data plans and reduced smartphone ability for those few times that I can't carry the tablet.

Perfect solution for me = Padfone :-)

im in a similar boat.

i had a ipad (sold it in the weekend, before ipad 3 was released :)), i have a macbook pro and iphone 4.

ipad i only used for reading comics, thats it, never really did anything else with it. browsing was annoying so used my MBP.

mostly i use my MBP for just web surfing, sometimes i program on it (using mono develop), sometimes ssh into a server, but 95% of just websurfing.

iphone 4 is well my phone.

so im looking at a padfone mostly to replace all three devices, primarily using it as a phone and the notebook, and reading comics on the tablet.

and i'm hoping that ubuntu for android will come out this year so if needed i can run ubuntu on it as a netbook and do some light programming. i have a desktop if needed.

so if the whole kit costs <$1500 ill buy one, if its < $1800 ill think about it, anything over and its over priced and ill wait for a competitor to make one.

insane
