According to the Official Google Blog the new Google Play is where it's all happening:

Starting today, Android Market, Google Music and the Google eBookstore will become part of Google Play. On your Android phone or tablet, we’ll be upgrading the Android Market app to the Google Play Store app over the coming days. Your videos, books and music apps (in countries where they are available) will also be upgraded to Google Play Movies, Google Play Books and Google Play Music apps. The music, movies, books and apps you’ve purchased will continue to be available to you through Google Play—simply log in with your Google account like always.

lol you beat me to it!

When I go to the play.google.com website, I have the option of Apps only. I don't see the list on the left for Music, Movies etc.

I did a quick look around, it it seemed to say only when you sign up (accept the TOS) does it check your IP.....

And does anyone know how restrictive the DRM is in video, ie does it look better than itunes?

RTFA. It's not available:

"In the U.S., music, movies, books and Android apps are available in Google Play. In Canada and the U.K., we’ll offer movies, books and Android apps; in Australia, books and apps; and in Japan, movies and apps. Everywhere else, Google Play will be the new home for Android apps. Our long-term goal is to roll out as many different types of content as possible to people around the world, and we’ll keep adding new content to keep it fresh."

I just got the "Google Play" market update.

But instead of "Books" and "Movies", in NZ we get "Staff Picks" and "Editor's Choice".

When I was in Canada during December and January, the same phone had "Books" and "Movies" in those positions, and I was able to buy* stuff. But they disappeared on return to NZ.

(* - I didn't actually go through with the purchase process as I was fairly certain I would lose acces to it once I got back to NZ. But I don't know that for certain.)

Just had the update pushed to my Market app on the phone, had about half the apps anyways and just basically purchased the rest on general principles. $0.40NZD for Dead Space is a bargain not to be missed!

The "Play" title seems a bit redundant, last I checked people don't tend to "Play" books. Music and Movies are fine obviously, Apps potentially.

Seems pointless beyond changing things for the sake of it. I don't think people were confused beforehand.

Agreed, not really sure what the point of all of this is, but end of the day I will take the sale prices :)

Unfortunately I already owned about half of the sale apps, and the remainder aren't of any interest. Oh well :)

Wonder how much the genius that came up with putting 'Play' in the middle of all the titles gets paid.....

Guess I'll need to stop referring to GMusic, GMovies, GBooks etc. Appending the word play to things seems very......well....Sony.

This. Strange marketing choice. Will see if I get used to it.
