Hi all, I was just given the horrid news that I was eligible of being charged $280 odd dollars by Vodafone for cancelling my Sky.  It seems when you transfer your existing Sky subscription over to Vodafone you actually sign up to a brand new 12 month Sky contract WITH Vodafone.  No where on their terms and conditions of the page (http://www.vodafone.co.nz/entertainment/tv/sky/sky-tv/) does it state this.  There is a note at the bottom about NEW Sky customers signing up for a new 12 month term, but there is nothing about existing Sky customers also signing up to a new 12 month term.

"If you are a new SKY customer a 12 month minimum term applies. Early termination charges will apply if you close your SKY services within this term, these will depend on the services you have and the remaining term on your contract. An additional installation fee may apply if you opt to take multiroom."

Then there is something about half price sky sports (the offer I was given) about signing up for a new 12 month term: http://www.vodafone.co.nz/entertainment/tv/sky/half-price-sky-sport/

"If you're on a Naked Broadband plan or an eligible home phone and broadband pack, and have SKY with Vodafone, you can get SKY Sport for half price. You'll pay just $13.17 a month (normally $26.34) on top of your standard SKY monthly subscription and your SKY joining fee is free on a 12 month term (normally $99)."

This states the Sky joining fee is free on a 12 month term, but again, I was already with SKY and was not joining Sky.  All I was saving was a mere $13 a month (half priced Sky sport) which equates to about $156 saving per year.  How can Vodafone possibly charge me $280 to end the contract early?!

I thought the main advantage of switching Sky to Vodafone was to get the convenience of ONE bill/invoice to make payments easier?!  This is outrageous!

I'll be transferring my Sky back to Sky and now am considering changing ISP too.

I migrated my Aunties sky over to Vodafone and she picked up on the 12 month term and had no issue with it,

She actually pointed it out to me :)

Edit: My Auntie is 70 BTW

Hi,

The early termination charge you were quoted is directly from SKY, it is not a Vodafone charge. Not sure what the background is here, but I can check if you message me your customer number.

Cheers,
Lon

So what John?  Because it doesn't say anywhere on your website that existing Sky customers get put on a new 12 month term, I must be dumb?  Because all 70 year olds must also be dumb?  Your logic makes no sense, and is actually quite insulting.

Hi Demeter, at last a Vodafone rep who is actually trying to be helpful...I'll message you my customer number.  When I spoke with the service desk person they told me the charge was not from Sky but was from Vodafone, so totally opposite to what you're saying...

I assumed the contract with Sky would carry over when switching to Vodafone, so if I was on a 12 month contract with Sky, and I still had 6 months left when transferring to Vodafone, then I would have 6 month contract with Vodafone...

All I was pointing out my Auntie changed Sky over to Vodafone and She picked up a new 12 month term contract was required, As noted in my post I did not even know this so not sure how you find it insulting!

John, then why the need to mention her age?  Its clear what you were implying.  Unless your auntie is telepathic, or had it explained to her over the phone, because she certainly didn't read it anywhere on your web page.

Nonetheless, I'm happy to drop it, if you can show me where on your web page it states existing Sky customers sign up to a new 12 month Sky contract.

I am not sure how she got the INFO, I would say told over the phone, She has enough trouble sending email let alone working a search function on a website

ettexor, I have replied to your private message. Something definitely went wrong on our end and we're remedying it now. Let me know if the resolution is not satisfactory.

Cheers,
^LS

I going to have to agree here, however good sense dictated that I should add; I would prefer a smartass over a dumbass any day.
