OurFord: JEEBUZ - I might wait till Telecom bring out there network and see if they're competitive (if they get the iPhone that is!)

I am very much looking forward to Telecom's new network...hopefully some compettion between them resulting in better prices/packages....

But I will not hold my breath to be honest, on them fighting to hard and compromising thier profit margins.
They will likely come to a truce after a short brief war...and all will be the same again.

If I was to stay on my current youchoose plan and add a mobile broadband package to it, do I qualify for a handset subsidy or do I pay the full handset price ?

I cant see anything on the vodafone website (when its up) that can tell me what the phone will cost in this situation. Does anyone know ?

[edit] Im sorry, the moment I ask I finally find the answer in the Q&A to say that there is a subsidy but its a pittance :(

bcourtney: I'm just wondering if anybody has had any confirmed reports of stock levels at launch??

Yes, I've heard from a extremely reliable source on their stock levels for Thursday night/Friday morning.

They have 4 iPhones available.  A 16GB in each of their Auckland and Wellington stores, and an 8GB in Christchurch and their online store.

There will be 4 ________ people in NZ on Friday morning.

Sounds like they should have plenty to satisfy the demand then, may even have a few left over

A few?

I hope they have all of them left over just to emphasise of what a screw up they've made

They will sell them all.

This is a country where people won't spend money heating their homes but would happily buy beer and new cellphones ad infinitum!!

sbiddle: It's nice, has a great UI and cool features. It doesn't change the fact it's just a phone.

You just don't get it - it's more than a phone, the idea is to revolutionise how people USE phones. Puts the mobile internet in your pocket with proper GPS and great maps, *easily* installable apps, and greate UI. All that stuff has been half-heartedly available before but was slow and difficult to use. The iPhone can change all that, as any gadget guy should know. But Vodafone's plans are putting that out of most people's reach.

sbiddle is right....it's just a phone with built in ipod....the GPS is using Wifi + AGPS to get you to your location or you can use the data + AGPS...that's not real GPS like the Nokia N95 which only uses the internal built in GPS and does not costs you any extra $$$ to be on a data plan....here is a comparison of the N95 vs the iphone....the only difference is that the new one is 3G....but it still lacks the other features mentioned....

Comparison

Where's the Mac OS!

Second that. Gimme *nix based sub-system anytime over a brick.

I think we should all turn up to the launches and queue as originally planned, but when they open the doors we just carry on standing there, as if we're there for something else. Then go home after about 10 minutes! :)

Have you seen the price of firewood and LPG?  It's probably because it's cheaper to use the artificial warmth of beer and seven Pentiums than it is to light the fire ;)

Well, I can't say I'm surprised out this, and I in fact predicted that $199 would be the most expensive plan.  We may as well get over it, Vodafone is as bollocks as Telecom ever was (and weirdly enough, I get better service and pricing from Telecom than Vodafone would even consider.  Go figure!)

And here comes the mainstream media:

IDC telecommunications market analyst Tim Shepheard said the phone was "not overly priced".

He said the plan and cost of the handset was "comparable" to other plans in New Zealand, which made it expensive internationally.

The $80/month plan was "no more" than other plans and though that made the handset more expensive, $549 was "not unreasonable" for the iPhone, Mr Shepheard said.

Where is this "analyst" living? There are plans of $49/month for 1 GB - on Vodafone! Charging $250 for the same GB is outrageous.
