So far all I see new over this week is Parliment TV, havn't tried via the ADB STB but looks good (with the green "Parliment will be sitting next") on my box.  So far it was just Vibe, C&I & Fox News which all happened about 3 weeks ago. Still no Alt TV.  Also Hindi seems to flick in and out of being FTA every now and again, which is extremely humerous for the bolliwood films.
Now where is that improved PQ Tongue out

Woah.. there we go.. back on TV2...

Seems like TV3 has already had the PQ upgrade, and TV2 hasn't...

TV2: Using the bad PQ:

And TV3: with the new improved PQ

You can see the beads of sweat rolling off frankies face.... Too funny

It's weird how this whole upgrade thing has turned out.

Back when we were still on analog you could tell the PQ was garbage.

Then we get an upgrade to digital and you could tell the difference. PQ was sweet. Then after a few days you get used to it and PQ is, well, bleh.

Then you have to put up with all new upgrade garbage. box resets, epg never working, lousy PQ (or was it?) etc etc. Finally the upgrade gets done PQ is better (or is it?) and hey presto you get Parliment TV, the repeat and rerun channel (vibe), the Crime channel - which is the rerun and repeat channel of all the crime shows from Discovery...(must. stop. ranting.)

Anyways...wait, what was the topic?

Hi

Well it has been a very busy 2 months in our Broadcast Operation team and I would like to update you on the current TV situation.

I was pleased to see contributors to this site recognising the picture improvements for the recently added channels such as Vibe and Crime & Investigation.

I must apologise however, that due to late delivery of the key receivers for the picture quality upgrade for Free to Air and Sport  and Movies channels, we are unable to complete this work prior  to Christmas.  The issue was apparently related to a chipset failure and our supplier needing to change chipset supplier at the last minute and then needed to complete soak testing.

The remaining lower priority channels will also be delivered after the holidays.  They are Alt TV, Triangle TV, Shine and The Cheese Radio.  We have been recently advised by City TV (regional Wellington channel) that they will not begin transmission till April.

In summary:

  1. Picture improvements will be seen on TV1, TV2, TV3 and SKY Sport/Movies soon after 14th January.
  2. New channels will also be added in the same timeframe, with equivalent picture quality to the new channels.
  3. Separately VLAN segmentation for the entire network has been completed as well as several other enhancements to software to stop the  re-booting of STBs.
  4. Further work will be continuing over the next few months to monitor and fine tune the set top box and TV  modem performance to ensure optimum performance.

Thanks again for your comments, support and patience.

Merry Christmas

That's great news.  I will be powering up my ADB STB & Cable modem to see if it still reboots.  Also plan to compare pictures between the ADB and DM to see if the software upgrade to the ADB (hopefully) has improved the PQ on that box.  I still believe that the PQ improvement has already been done to TV3 as it's transmitting in 720x576, just not TV1/2 which is transmitting in 704x576
