Check out this story

It talks about Freeview and Sky. Unfortunately the funniest thing of all is only viewable if you have the paper edition (page C2). The herald have put a graphic of a DIY satellite dish - unfortunately for them it's actually a wok with USB WiFi dongle for receiving long range WiFi signals related to a story about a Dunedin TV station but unfortunately will probably lead lots of people to believe they can receive Sky/Freeview with a wok!

Doh!

You'll get the DVB-T service fine with rabbits ears from your place when it launches!

New Zealanders have a reputation for being early adopters of technology. But it was encouraging to see the reaction to a report about a Kiwified low-tech approach to the media revolution.
nzherald.co.nz reported a story from the Oamaru Mail about a new local station for North Otago, 45 South, which is transmitting its signal from a wok.
Apparently the local computer enthusiasts who started the channel worked out the configuration for a wok was the same as for much more expensive satellite dishes.
Rather than spend $20,000 for a commercial link up - which they did not have - they bought several woks from The Warehouse. The online story was a huge hit with readers around the world.

That's not so bad, surely?

Nope, the article itself is OK, it's the accompanying picture/text of the DIY wifi wok that is wrong (only on the dead tree version probably).

Actually, I don't think the TV station is transmitting a broadcast signal with the wok either... just re-read what they wrote.

The guy simply can't understand the difference between a satellite dish (receives satellite signals from space) and a microwave link/horn style antenna for terrestrial coverage.

I wonder whether this will appear in the "don't try this at home" column tomorrow?

/me thinks outsourcing the Herald to foreign editorial staff can't make things any worse.

No, the article is correct! I've had one of these bad-boy Wok rigs for months. I can get Wi-Fi, terrestrial, Sky & (with a bit of extra-virgin olive oil) the shipping forecast.

Had to take it down recently though. My Wi-Fi was interfering with the discovery channel.
