I'm going to start doing some surfing - I'd bet my left-one that there is NOTHING shown on the Vodafone sites in NZ, Aus, Italy and (OUCH!)

Not likely mate...as above the UK is already there, and, why is it every other tech site interested in mobile phone tech has iphone stuff plastered all over the show?

Is there a clamp on the VF countries or something? would seem weird to me, surely Apple wants it trumpeted!

Again, seriously, I'm not asking VF to define everything now, as I know they can't;

But can they at least look a bit interested for once and stop being so silent?

Motorwayne - please show me a web-page from one of Apples new territories showing 3G iPhone device information and THEN see if you can get pricing.

You can't compare O2 that had the iPhone already with ANY of the new carriers.

Don't think that Vodafone and SingTel etc aren't going to get on-board...
But don't expect Apple to let them start trumpeting until they have done it themselves.

Ever heard of NDA's.

They would have (and probably still are) been firmly in place to stop leaks like other manufacturers have.

The marketing clout you get by having everyone "guessing" what the next iPhone etc. will have becomes much greater when very few know until launch.

I fail to grasp why you're so passionate about no one having any information... Its the way Apple have always worked in the past. It makes NO difference that they're Vodafone.

I hope Vodafone take onboard what Steve Jobs is trying to do - and that is making it within reach for most people - keeping it cheap.

Jobs really wants to get these things out there - and lots of them.
Apple seem to be pretty tough and persuasive in negotiations. I'd like to think that they have priced the phone lower than we expect - just like they have in the States.
Data plans are a different question - that's where the carriers make their real money.

I hope this space hots up with competition and we see some price drops too.

FINALLY! a flush headphone jack, one of the stupidiest things on the 1G iphone.
How dumb that you couldn't listen to your music on another stereo because the lead doesn't fit the headphone jack

This announcement makes the iPhone so bloody cheap that I think Apple will have some sort of agreement which allows them to control some of the pricing?

Pure speculation on my part of course, but surely an Apple "partner" wouldn't be allowed to tarnish the intentions of Apple to make this "affordable" by reaming us all from staggering markups.

Surely?

Apple Marketing. One of the things they do VERY well (not to mention great, innovative products). Any kind of association with another entity, be it AT&T, VF et al is a marketing risk for them in the form of cross-branding with confused messages to market etc.

I would go go far to say that anyone that partners with Apple to sell a product thereby becomes Apple's b!tch in terms of what they can and can't do around promotion and advertising. I think that if VF were allowed to have a big Apple iPhone banner plastered all over their website by now they would, and I'd anticipate that this will start coming to light a week or two before the release. This is my opinion from my Marketing background as well as stuff I've gathered from a friend working in VFNZ Marketing for the past year or so.

Straight up price of the device I'd anticipate would be low (akin to $199 converted... maybe $299 if we are lucky), however VF is sure to sting us on service price! And if 24mo contracts are the only option then yikes I'm not getting one! Especially if they are around the $100 mark. I really hope that Apple steps in to control VF somehow, maybe unlimited 3G for $50 would revolutionize things (To be $30USD for unlimited 3G with AT&T in the states so not that outlandish!). The only thing VFNZ needs to be scared of is changing the industry, and uproar from existing contracted customers gagging for a piece of Apple!

I was just talking about that with a mate this morning, interesting and now understandable.

I think a lot of people here need a reality check here about the total cost of ownership for the 3G iPhone.

Fair enough, but even if it's a $100 per month plan (I hope it's less!) and that adds up to $2400 over 2 years, it's not exactly fair to say that the phone has cost you $3000 over the two years. I mean it's true, sure, but you've also had the use of the plan for 2 years. I mean you're getting a 3G iPhone, you want to use it right? You want to be able to do all the things it allows you to do and you have to pay for it. What's the point of getting an iPhone and putting it on my old Get200 plan?
