The traditional services dont seem to fit as you cant log into settings on the TV to change the DNS settings, but can it just be changed on the router anyway? Unsure... Im a newb with this.

Samsung TVs have fully configurable network settings for both wired and wireless interfaces. Even mentions changing DNS in the TVs manual.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Thanks Ill do that, the 2015 TV's dont have the settings to do it... cheers!

You would probably have to ask Samsung. There are no screens to do that on the TV. They talk about changing the DNS on the router in the manual, did not see any reference to changing it on the TV.

So what is in the network settings section, under wired or wireless interface if you select static IP. The manual does NOT refer to the router. It refers to TV settings. Router setting would only apply if DHCP used anyway.

Maybe follow the wireless wizard (if don't even mention if you are using wireless) again and choose static address.

All you can do under that interface is actually select which device you want to connect with, no option to select a static IP. Literally just a device.

So you are referring to wireless interface, have you tried the wired interface??

Hi no I have not tried a wired interface, I would have to run a cable about 30 meters to try that, so wouldnt be a long term solution but it may have more options there. Sounds like the solution is just changing the DNS on the router itself?

http://www.smartdnsprovider.com/how-to-configure-smart-dns-on-samsung-smart-tv/ infers that the same options (which allows DNS change) apply to both wireless and wired interface (yet only shows wired).

Hi thanks for the links, that interface they are presenting is last years, the software I have is completely different. You dont have the option to modify or even see the DNS setting.

I found on my late 2014 Samsung that even though I could change the DNS settings in the TV, I couldn't get it to access US Netflix. I have no idea why this was and put it down to the TV itself being region locked. I bit the bullet and changed the DNS settings in my router and can now happily access whatever region I want.

Ah ok, good feedback, thanks. Did you use any particular provider to do that? I dont like these recurring revenue models, but there doesnt seem to be a free or one off way to do it?

It seems such a trivial price to pay for a quality service - especially when you compare to the price of broadband ($80+ usually) or Sky ($100+)

The existing free options really suck in comparison

You have Hola, which is essentially a giant botnet, and doesn't even work on devices outside normal computers (i.e. everything except a PC/Mac)

then you have 'global mode', free with some ISPs, but worth exactly what you pay for it ($0).
It doesn't support as many devices, or overseas services, and region switcher either doesn't exist or is very poor.
And support for it leaves a huge amount to be desired. (basically telling customers to check geekzone, since the ISPs didn't actually create the service, they cannot make any changes to it, relying on a 3rd party who's a little bit too busy with legal troubles to fix stuff)

On the flip side, for the paid options you have the likes of unblock-us and unotelly.
$3-5 per month (really, less than the price of 1 coffee) and has excellent support for many many devices, and fantastic customers service since they actually build the product and so understand how it works. $3-5/m seems a small price to pay for something as awesome as that.

Just pay the money for a service that works. you won't regret it.
