Mine is the same higher software version that yours is, and also was not doing much. After a little while the Hub button worked, and it is fine. The Sky Pod app software number (ends in 22.tv) hasn't changed.

Are the new device failures just a PR disaster or are they also a financial one? How hard has Sky been hit by this?

I guess it's a bit too early to tell.

They seemed to be doing quite well when reporting their last results in August 2023, and were optimistic about future prospects.

I hope they get their act together.

hmmm…..well they just announced the cost of Sky Sports is going up by 10.5% so that’s one way to counter a hit on customer numbers …..

This isn't for piracy related reasons, but any chance eventually it will be possible to root & unlock these boxes, with them being Android based?

Getting an error activating the box, so just packed it away, and went back to the older MySky Unit, but with it unlocked, it would make an awesome Kodi box, without the need for a dish.

That is yet to be discovered. 😈
I know the box is useless without a subscription. Changing the launcher would do the trick but again, it locks you out from accessing anything unless you have a new Sky box in your subscription.

Got curious and decided to open the sky box up. To see if I could see if there was anything substantial which would assist with rooting/unlocking, and can see it'a driven by a Broadcom processor/chipset. Seems to be very proprietary, as none of the numbers on the chips seem to bring many, if any results when Googled.

I did find one result however I think for the main processor.

Chip: BCM7217
Vendor: BROADCOM
Family: Cortex-A_Armv8
Main Core: Cortex-A53

as it's possible to bring up Android settings by pushing the remote control, it's possible to open apps via settings, so opened Play Store, added a Google account, downloaded Downloader, and then installed a custom launcher, and disabled the built in Sky Launcher.

Only thing is that I don't have write access to the hard drive, but this works really well.

But in my previous experience with the New Skybox, the home button on the Sky remote control as programmed to launch Sky's launcher. If there is some way to change that, that will be really awesome.

There's an app in the play store called "Button Mapper" it allows the home button to be reprogrammed - trust me it works, as that was the second thing to go, on our new decoder, after the Sky interface.

After doing this do you still have access to all the Sky Programs, Sky Apps, and functionality, and do the Sky Appss still update please?

As of 14:30 I can't view any channels (including FTA), I'm told I have to upgrade my subscription.
