Sky sent me an offer yesterday, offering the new sky box for free. Don't think ill bother yet.
Does anyone know how to use the new white sky remote as IR only? it keeps asking me to pair to Bluetooth, I already have a remote connected to Bluetooth and cannot connect 2 Bluetooth remotes at once!!
The remote is Bluetooth only, the box doesn't have IR unfortunately.

Thanks for your reply, I got one of these remotes and it works fine in the room with the Sky Box and will use the Sky Bluetooth remote in another room and another room will use the Google Home iPhone app as a remote control.

I think I have found a fix, and I've sent these steps to Sky support.
The good news is that no recordings are lost in doing this process.
I have Developer options enabled on my New sky box. I don't know if you need to have them enabled to do this fix.
- Go to My Hub > Android Settings > Apps > See all apps > Show system Apps > Sky STB
- Select ‘Clear cache’ (this step might not be needed - I tried it first and it made no difference)
- Select ‘Uninstall updates’
- This will downgrade the Sky STB app to 2.22.34-tv (not the OOBE version, but two versions old)
- The New Sky Box will reconnect to satellite services and bring up the connect Sky account screen with QR Code
- Connect to your Sky account
- Go to My Hub > Android Settings > Device preferences
- Select ‘Restart’
- Once the restart is complete, the Sky STB app will update to the latest version (currently 2.26.52-tv)
Since I’ve done this, the box is way more responsive, even for video rewind etc (and oh why oh why doesn't this box have a stop button?)
I'm just trying to find a way for the box not going to sleep
I'm not sure if this is the setting you need, but go to:
My Hub > Android Settings > Device Preferences > Energy Saver > Turn off display > Never
One other setting requires you to enable developer options, but I'm not sure it's relevant for a set top box.
Go to:
My Hub > Android Settings > Device Preferences > About > Android TV OS build
Click on this setting a bunch of times (12 maybe) and it should enable Developer Options
Then go to:
My Hub > Android Settings > Device Preferences > Developer options > Stay awake
and select on.
Worth a try at least.
Thanks, I had this option on awhile ago but somehow disappeared over time so have enabled it again
Stay awake
Screen will never sleep while charging
It looks like this Android operating system is for phones
I'll give it another go, cheers
Just tried the Sky "upgrade" offer, found significant user experience downgrades:
No favourite channels
No channel can play while the planner is displayed
No all-channel integrated app - nonFTA only via SkyGo
No adjustment to on-screen timeouts - programme too quick to read
...so I had Sky provision the old box back and reset everything as it was (same day).
Fortunately our two boxes are working fine but I suspect it will be a forced change if either develops problems, at that point I'll be going Freeview...guess this box is 5yrs behind the curve, all my streaming apps are already in one place on our AppleTV - where they will be staying.
Anyone found a killer feature on the new box to make it worthwhile yet?

Me too.
If the Sky/Vodafone merger had gone ahead, Vodafone TV would now be the Sky Box (and I would still be a Sky customer).
siva992: You should have heed the advice here. 😂
But yeah, it's still a very inferior product and we pay to become their guinea pigs honestly.
Yes I should, hadn't been a regular here for a while and I'm not sure what I was thinking...

It's amazing - the offer of a free new box is being pushed to me VERY often and I am resisting - I had a quick look on the website to see if I was "missing anything" - it appears that having the old sky box and an Apple TV is the way forward for the foreseeable future for me.
There is literally no reason for me to downgrade to the new box unless they force me to - at which point I'll simply cancel.

I made the move as there were a few upsides for me compared to the old HDi box.
