eracode:How can you say that with such certainty? Are you surmising? You say ‘can’ but do you mean “might be able to”?
siva992:Eitsop:
Once this decoder is launched, will they also add an AppleTV app fro SkyTV?
So people have a choice of using their own AppleTV box or Skys Android Box?
When Sky's Android TV box is launched, you can install the Apple TV+ app from the Google Play store on your Sky Android TV box.
That's not what the poster asked? They're not concerned with accessing the Apple TV+ streaming service on the SKY box, they want to access the SKY service using an Apple TV streaming box. And as someone has already pointed out that is extremely unlikely.

Why the doubt?
Have Sky said you will be able to download any/everything that's on the Google Play store? If they haven't, you're wishful thinking.

Yes - there are two different scenarios being discussed here by different people:
1. Will there be a Sky app for Apple TV? Extremely unlikely, as you say.
2. An assertion that you will be able download the Apple TV+ app from the Google Play store onto the new Sky box. I’m asking that poster for the authority behind their statement. Pretty sure Sky haven’t said that - so they’re guessing.
There’s a lot of what appears to be ill-informed comment going on here.

Referring to earlier in thread: #2938691
"When it does arrive, Sky's new box, which will run on Google's Android software, will offer all of Sky's regular channels over UFB fibre - negating the need for a dish on your roof. It will also offer Netflix, Disney+, Amazon's Prime Video and other third-party apps and support 4K Ultra High Definition."
While it doesn't explicitly mention AppleTV+, I would imagine that is covered by "other third-party apps"

I do hope it is possible to purchase the box outright and run the FTA channels like you can with Vodafone TV, if true then I'll have no problem having my satellite dish and UHF antenna removed

Assuming it delivers the other broadcasters content too, but if you're stuck with the TVNZ and three apps for viewing that, I wouldnt rate it as good viewing compared to the over the air versions, and you would miss out on all the chaff channels from DVB - It only said skys regular channels.

No, that will not be possible. See the comments on this article: https://www.screenscribe.net/new-sky-box-delayed-indefinitely/

What will not be possible?
If you mean “purchase the box outright”, my understanding is that from the outset Sky said the new box will be able to purchased outright or available on a monthly rental.
If you mean “… run the FTA channels like you can with VTV”, the story you linked clearly says the new box “… will combine hard-drive recording with Sky and free-to-air channels and streaming apps.”
If you mean “having my satellite dish and UHF antenna removed”, why do you say that? All info to date on the new box, including the story you linked, makes it clear that it can receive a satellite signal or be used as an IPTV streamer.

I think he is referring to having free to air channels without a Sky subscription.
Article comments makes it pretty clear a monthly subscription will be required.
As rugrat stated, it is very clear and painfully obvious what exactly was asked and answered, both in this thread and on ScreenScribe. Where did you get the idea from that you could just purchase the new box outright from Sky without being a subscriber eracode? Have Sky ever allowed you to do such a thing in the past with previous boxes? Can you provide a link to your source of that information?
So the SKY box won't be available "soon". As for renting or buying it, the beauty of Google TV, Voda TV and a myriad of other small TV devices is the small size and relatively low cost. The much speculated in this forum Sky box will not be low cost to purchase (the T-Box was closer to $1,000 than $100 when launched), it has a hard drive (probably SSD) and Irdeto s/w and hardware to interface to a Sky dish. With all this functionality it still won't provide the same service as the Vodafone TV service.
It really is a dumb idea , who wants another box that will need to be thrown out on in a couple of years, an app would of met the majority of customers needs. The sky satellite is still needed for areas with poor internet though.

"The next gen Sky box will run on Google's Android software, cost $199 upfront or $19 a month over a year - a change of tack for Sky, which has not previously charged directly for hardware."
