$75 increased to $429.00 is the increase in cost to me to stick with Fan Pass

Not disagreeing that it is a hefty increase for you, but isn't the $330 for a year?

Sky, or anyone else for that matter, doesn't buy rights as a day here and a day there, so it may well be that the FanPass revenue was quite a lot of small bits and pieces, so was not economic. I take it that it was to get some revenue back from those that left Sky, but if that ends up being tiny bits and pieces, not worth it

I understand what you are saying. Sky will be paying large sums of money for a whole sporting event, just so I can pick and choose the few hours I want to watch (and only pay for those few hours). From that respect, I am their worst customer.

I suspect the amount of money the Fan Pass site generates, probably doesn't even cover the cost of running / administering the service let alone the actual content.

I guess those callers didn't understand how much Sky has to pay for sporting broadcast rights.

BUT she consistently dodged the question of 'bundled' content that "no-one wants".

If they had a Rugby-Only package even if only via their satellite box channel, how much would it cost to give them the same percentage return on the rugby?

IMHO most people would pay $20-$25/month happily for Rugby-Only, but Sky persist in forcing all the add-on channels and costs simply because they can.

Can you imagine if McD/KFC/BK/Wendy's (pick your favourite) was the only Fast Food outlet in the country and they decided that they wouldn't offer an option to only buy a burger alone, but insisted on only selling a "Family Pack" with optional extras (but no substitutions)... how many people would go in and pay the $29.99 for the "Family Pack" when all they wanted was a burger, fries and a drink?

Who would be happy to just throw away the 'content' they didn't want/need (and couldn't legally share) and say 'Well I guess it cost a lot to run a Fast Food outlet and pay for all the staff and basic ingredients so its only fair they force me to buy the whole Family Pack to make their 'necessary' margin... I guess I could just not buy any burgers ever if I didn't think this was fair..."

Now, with this in mind, does Sky's packaging still look 'fair' and 'reasonable'?

Maybe be to keep people happy can divide the rights cost / number of games / number of people watching + mark up to get what you pay per game.

Some will pay less and some will pay way way more.

thank you, thank you, thank you for dns4me.net US$3.5 + RugbyPass US$20 month, looks like its a bit cheaper then the current monthly fanpass price.

What you think, will it works?

PS: sorry, can't afford a new fanpass price, but happy to pay a current one.

they dont force you to buy anything , if you want Sky it starts at the basic package, then it is up to you to what you want, it's the same the world over when it comes to cable or satellite tv.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Gotta get past the myopic view on the bundle. Plain and simple it cost you $80/month to watch sport. How much sport do you watch in a month? Is it worth your while or would you rather spend your money on something else. Pretty simple value proposition. If you watch sport AND entertainment then the value proposition improves.

Fanpass was new, it was meant IMO to garner revenue from those that left Sky. It didn't work as many seem to prefer to pay peanuts for a few minutes here and there over a month, yet sports rights are not bought that way, so it did not work out. Sky Sport is what, $26? But its not. The sports rights cost is 60% of all Sky rights costs. If sport was stand alone, it costs a lot. basic doesnt "cost" $46 or whatever it is, there is a subsidy there to make Sports add-on more palatable.

Fanpass at $100. Benefit is monthly. Negative is no ESPN, less Popups.

Bundle is $100. Benefit is all sport channels, recording, HD.

Where did you get $50 per month from? Fanpass was $56, and less channels, and not true HD and no recording. And it was not for prime time, but to recover some revenue, it didnt work, so it was too cheap.

So back to the "Family Pack"... how much do you want the burger, they only sell it in the Family Pack, so is the burger worth $29.99 to you or not?
