At the moment, it looks like they are focusing on retaining existing paying customers.

I doubt that they have enough of the new equipment to start making offers to potential new customers, and with the current supply constraints, I don't think they'll be able to offer anything to new customers for many months yet.

You are assuming that they are operating to an actual, coherent plan/strategy. My suspicion is that it's probably random - my experience of Sky's customer "support" is that it's comically bad. Worse even than Vodafone.

Just seen an add on TV for the new Sky box. They must have some confidence that it is going to happen soon.

I am steeling myself to contact Sky as I have an email from 13 Oct 2022 that confirms I have pre-ordered a Sky Pod and they will contact me nearer the time it is to ship

However I noticed on Sky Account page it states:

1 "Your new Sky Box order is in progress".

Your new device order is underway. Migration in progress

Sigh........... I don't want a Sky Box

I also ordered a Sky Pod recently, and my account page says “Your new Sky Box order is in progress. Once that's complete you'll be able to make further upgrades in My Account”.

I’m not sure I’d read too much into any of the wording, it all seems a bit jumbled, and a lot of the communication seems to have been written before they finalised what they were doing. I think the Sky Pod was a bit of an afterthought when Vodafone decided to close their service down and they needed a streaming solution to replace it. Until then, I suspect the Sky Box was going to be the only product offered, and I think a lot of what we’re seeing was written before the Sky Pod was added in to the mix.

Agree, the Vodafone TV closure would have thrown a cat among the pigeons and one they would have been silly to have missed so prob put the whole project back a bit.
Just clear comms would be good though.
I understand that with lots of moving parts, often these things are made up on the fly, even with large companies but they just need to spend a bit more time thinking from the customer view.

Got this today, interesting.  Bolded italics are mine.

Thank you for being on our Sky Nation panel throughout 2022.

This year we’ve shared your insights and feedback on Sky projects across the business. Your continued support with product testing, surveys and interviews have helped us transform Sky in line with the needs of our customers.

How you’ve helped
One of your key pieces of feedback was that we could provide more flexibility and value for money.

Based on thousands of survey responses and 35 customer interviews, we’ll be rolling out new, streamlined packages and pricing next year, making it easier to choose the entertainment you love.

Plus, we’re continuing improving functionality across our services including adding recording to all packages as part of new pricing and packaging; and introducing no-risk trials so you can find out if a package is right for you before you subscribe.

In short, most full price customers will receive a reduction in their charges or a discounted upgrade opportunity if they choose to migrate.

Your feedback on these changes was:

1. It’s Sky made simple with easy to switch services, rounded pricing and logical, customer-friendly packages.

2. It’s fairer, including My Sky with every plan and no longer paying for content you don’t watch.

3. Customers feel in control. The ability to choose the ‘right-plan’ themselves empowers them.

New Sky Box & Sky Pod
Another exciting development you’ve helped inform are our new Sky Box and Sky Pod devices. Set to come out in the new year, with many of you already registered for pre-order and participation in our customer trial.

The New Sky is a smaller, more refined box that includes the best of satellite and streaming all in one - - Sky TV, streaming and On Demand. You can also record 5 shows at once with the huge 1TB hard drive, watch on any screen with Sky Go and use your voice to search for shows with our new Voice Remote.

Finally the Sky Pod, a portable internet only, plug-in solution. The Sky Pod has been developed initially for VodafoneTV customers given their immediate need for a new solution. We’ll look to keep you informed of when we can offer this device more widely to our customers.

Thank you again for being part of Sky Nation. We look forward to hearing more of your thoughts in the New Year.

Have a very Merry Christmas.

The Sky Nation Team

Received the same email.

Was quite interested to see more flexibility and lower pricing mentioned. I'll wait and see, I guess.

Yes that's why I have access to SkyGo. The issue is I can't mirror/airplay SkyGo from my MacBook to Apple TV 4K.

I can mirror SkyGo from my MacBook. But when I play a channel I get sound but the video is black. iPhone or iPad, works fine

Mirroring other video from Safari works fine though, just not video in SkyGo. Just use the iPhone or iPad.

Continuing on the thread, specifically with multiroom.

We've always had 2 boxes in the house for convenience. Under TCL and Vodafone I was never charged for the 2nd subscription or box, which seemed to be a common sales offer. After being moved to Sky in Feb 22, this appeared to carry through while we wait for the new equipment to arrive, paying $50.99 for the service (Starter + Entertainment)

Through this whole time, my SkyGo has never allowed me access to the entertainment channels - which for me is CNN, History etc - because Im not on a historical dish plan.

I got my Jan bill in email this morning.... and lo and behold, the Multiroom charge has turned up. No email advice of upcoming changes or charges, it's just appeared.

After 40m waiting for Sky help, the very nice person said they couldnt help and i would need to call Sales on monday. After having called the sales line.

Meanwhile SkyGo continues to be hobbled.

I only ordered one hockey puck because I was unsure if we would carry on with 2 boxes - as it stands, the 2nd box is only used about 10% of the month if at all - and I wondered if we could make do with SkyGo+casting.

It's good to see Sky continues to only get it's ability to bill functioning. Product Management seems to be a lost art.

I get that multiroom isn't free, nor do i expect it be. But Im now being billed more, i have an inferior app streaming experience, have cost sky nothing specific to my service (no install charges - just their core project charges moving the voda base over), havent got a puck yet.

Has anyone else noticed the multiroom uplift? I'm not going for 2 pucks.

Press release:

Sky is pleased to confirm that customer trials have commenced on the new Sky Box and Sky Pod.

A range of customers from the Sky Nation panel have volunteered to be triallists and to be the first to experience the exciting new Sky technology over January.

The new Sky Box is the most transformative product we’ve delivered for our customers in some years.  As a ‘hybrid’ box, it offers the best of Sky satellite, streaming, and on demand.  Customers can access Sky, free-to-air channels and their favourite Apps – all in one place.

The Sky Pod has been specially designed for those customers who are happy to rely on internet-only delivery (and can’t or don’t wish to have a satellite dish on their home).  It’s an ideal solution for customers who have accessed Sky through the soon-to-close Vodafone TV, and some of our triallists are VTV customers.

Today is an important milestone.  We are delighted to be sharing these transformational new products with our customer triallists and look forward to hearing their feedback.  We also look forward to offering the new Sky Box and Sky Pod more widely in the coming weeks.
