I have told countless friends and family about this deal, but no one has taken it up - I think they either don't believe me or just think it is too much effort.

In life you don't worry about other people too much. They will do what they want to do.

And to boot, there are a world of alternatives. Youtube is basically infinite, for free. Netlix (who have had a big content boost lately) etc, for pennies, Freeview.....

Sky survives on the key sports and the inertia of people to change.

A key factor is that it is all in one place. One remote, no devices to setup, it just works. While it doesnt have the TV/Movie content of NF or LB it has a wide plethora of content. Something for everyone. Broadcast TV is alive and well, and the change is slow, so I doubt Sky has any issues, they will change a bit before they need to. They have put OnDemand in place, and Neon as an SVOD in place. Fan pass. SkyGo. IMHO they are well set to up whatever ante is required, literally at the drop of a hat. I can easily see a day when we wake up and Sky announces that you can get Sky via satellite, MySky, etc or stream it.

Well all the services I mentioned I have on one device (all in HD), one remote and they just work so that's no longer a factor.

When we got this awesome deal the woman said that if we cancel after 12 months we can sign up with the same deal again after a 3 month stand down. Does anyone know if that is related to the property or the subscriber? i.e. if I cancel in my name and the next day my fiancé signs up in her name would that work?

People have disputed this previously, but it's on the address. We tried using different person at same address, and they caught on really quick.

We signed up to this deal in March last year in my partners name (different surname).

We had Sky purely for the Sport, and that was pretty much only rugby union/league and cricket.

The 12 months was up last month so we canceled and returned everything and I intended signing up again in my name for another 12 months.

However, I got busy, didn't get round to it and we found we didn't really miss it. Then I decided I would have a look for different options online for the rugby and for the last 2 weeks have been using rugbypass.com and DNS4me and have had glitch free live rugby with four weeks of previous games available on demand.

Everything else we want we can get off the net for free so we're happy campers, and saving a bit of money to boot.

We just have to sort something for the cricket when it's back on.....

Tall poppy? There may be a few others, but it's not a common business practice. I may be wrong - perhaps you could list all the other companies you are aware of that are practicing this as blatantly as Sky?

Rugbypass may be good but you still have the problem of geo unblocking. Sky just works.

I agree it's not for everyone, but most people on these forums should be able to work that with their eyes shut.

That's lame. So you don't mind lying so long as you feel stiffed? Two wrongs and all that?

Personally, my integrity is worth more than a Sky subscription a year.

Almost all companies that use term contracts, charge their existing customers at the rate they signed up at, until they get onto a "new plan". Check your ISP, Telecoms Company etc.
