It's the On Sky bit that concerns me.

Sky provide Prime to satisfy their non monopoly of kiwi public interest sports events. They're under no obligation to make that HD in the freeview world, as evident by the SD res since startup.

They do show major shows from time to time, such as Top Gear when it was still around, and it would be great to see those in Full HD, 1080i like the others.

Kinda ridiculous given TV1 showed the Olympics in 720p and dolby surround sound way back when in 2008.

Hopefully a step in the right direction about to take place...

Why? Isnt up to the individual broadcaster to decide what quality they want to broadcast in? It'd be great to see OneNews in HD - should it be incumbent on them to do so? No obligation for them to do so. Kinda ridiculous dont you think? Its 2016 not 2008 - so why not the most watched program on that channel be in HD?

Should all Freeview channels be required to broadcast in HD? Who bears the cost - Kordia or the individual channels?

Should FreeviewSat be in HD?

Its a bold call to say that Sky has Prime to " satisfy their non monopoly of kiwi public interest sports events". There is no anti-siphoning in this country. Have a read of the ComCom report on the Sky-Prime acquisition and show me where it said that. Read the MCH report into antisiphioning and show where its in the national interest for a FTA to carry sport. Its not.

I think there is for some of the things they carry. There certainly was a requirement with the olympics to have some FTA of it.

I haven't actually seen Prime News for a long time. Prime has always struck me as a cheap and nasty channel, the poor image quality probably the main cause. If it weren't for Game of Thrones being a huge global hit (and also on SoHo), I would never have watched it by dint of it being on Prime.

Hopefully the HD will help them out a bit :P

Yes it is madness. The rugby world cup was the same, last year on freeview / prime it was in SD, but in 2011 it was in full HD when it was on freeview. It seems to take them a long time to get things done. Took them a very long time to get the EPG onto the tivo. I wonder if the 2019 world cup will be in 4K?

They also broadcast Silent Witness, which is two years behind, and in blurry SD. Yet people could watch the latest episodes through the BBC iplayer without ads in HD as soon as they come out.

Just had Email from Sky. 13 Feb is the go date for Prime in HD.

Also says series links will need to be done again.

Yet the link in the Email says to delete all series links and future recordings after 1st Feb, and rebook them, confusing.

From the Sky Site as below. I guess this means they'll purposely delay getting Prime HD onto Freeview, as another way to try and keep people on Sky.

So glad we dumped Sky last week after being a very long term subscriber. Finally convinced wife after finding everything she needed on Roku UK channels.
