Wow, its gone from overpriced to ridiculously overpriced.  Talk about trying to lock people into their conventional system.

I'm referring to how Sky seem to intentionally cripple every online platform they develop so they can turn around and say "the set top box over satellite is the best system".

SkyGo - limited quality (never HD), login issues at peak times.

Neon - no sports

Fan Pass - Cost.

When they end a press release with "if you don't like these changes you can still get our preferred platform" you know that's where they are pushing people.

Anyone else thing the next PR from FanPass will be 'due to the low number of subscribers the service will be permanently shut down from xx date'.

They've just killed the platform stone dead. It's a shame because it had great potential.

Intent seems to be driving customers to their core business.

Wow that's an insane increase. In our house we only watch the cricket so normally just but a week pass to cover a series etc.

Looks like I will now be subscribing on one of the overseas providers via VPN as there is no way I am paying $99 to watch a series when half the time they get washed out at home anyway!

What we need is a Netflix for sports.

I love how everyone is just assuming that the new pricing is unreasonably high. I highly doubt any of us here have any basis in fact for that opinion.

I quite often bought a day passes for a Rugby Game or a ODI/20-20.

Never bought a month pass before, but as mentioned earlier, had planned to for the Lions and the AC.

I guess now I'll be renewing my DNS4ME sub and looking for an overseas AC provider and RugbyPass. Will be cheaper than the $56 I was happy to pay Sky (I'd be OK at $66. $99 is a rort - why aren't they increasing the price of the Sport component on their 'preferred' platform??)

But you can sign up for normal Sky! Such good value.

Well we will see what happens in the next few weeks.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get a price rise for satellite sky too, just in time for the lions tour which if I am honest about I'm not that interested in as seat prices were ridiculous, so declined first the option to buy a ticket linked to my season pass.

It's more than that. I just used to get an occasional FanPass subscription to watch Hurricanes games when they are away. That is my only interest in FanPass. The rest of the rugby I would catch up with on prime on a Sunday afternoon. The choice to be able to do that has been removed. Instead I have to get a $100 monthly pass which I simply cannot justify.

And that is a completely rational arguement - in fact it aligns closely with my own reasoning. It sucks that this cheap, reasonable quality occasional use legal option is disappearing, but I understand why. Regardless of how much we dislike any commercial entity, it's not reasonable to expect them to continue providing a service that doesn't make economic sense for them.

Maybe it'll push some people into (re)subscribing to their full service, maybe it'll push some people to obtaining the content via other means, and maybe some people will stop watching some things. They considered all that for sure.

It sucks, and I'll miss it, but not enough to pay $100/month.

Cheers - N

This just shows how badly competition is needed in the sports content field. I wonder if this has anything to do with the VF merger, and the plans they may offer with it?

If someone can get all their entertainment and sports needs for 100 dollars a month, and shared across a family, that probably isn't that bad. But many people only have time to watch the occasional thing.

Not so much an assumption from me, but more about perspective. To me it IS unreasonably high. I have no idea whether it is unreasonably high in the context of what it costs Sky to deliver the service. And nor do I really care.

Prior to Fan Pass, I used to watch my All Blacks games delayed on Prime. Then Fan Pass came along, and I was happy to occasionally throw money at Sky to watch games live.

But with these price increases I'll go back to my old viewing model.

What plans? The merger was declined by the Commerce Commission.

As mentioned, it could be to stick two fingers up to everyone who opposed the merger.

In a capitalist society, price is a mechanism which is used to regulate supply and demand.

The fact that people think the price is unreasonably high and it deters them purchasing it, means that it is unreasonably high and the product being sold isn't worth the price being asked.

Customer perception is fact.

Sporting bodies will end up selling for less

Sky basic $49 plus Mysky $15 plus Sport $29.90 = $93.90 per month. Increase just one service, Sport from $59 to $99 per month right before a hugely high demand time seem like pricing for the hell of it. It all looks very unreasonable, however granted we do not know their cost structure

but if it has gone up that much then surely Sport on a Sky sub should also have gone up.
