So does the "four times recording capacity" mean four times actual usable recording capacity or just two times after the 50% allowance is deducted for Sky Active? My current MySkyHDi allocation is around 160 GB usable (from a total of 320 GB), so if this will expand to 640 GB usable (4 x 160) the "plus" upgrade may be worth it. If the usable space only increases to just 320 GB then it's clearly not worth it.

A MySkyHDi can get up to 30 Hours of HD Recording.
A MySkyHDi+ can get up to 130 Hours of HD Recording.

Can you record more than 2 channels at once?
Since I don't have a 3D TV then the last 4 games of the World Cup won't make me get the +.
But I might cancel the sport package after the RWC and once I have saved the $150 consider getting the +. Cost neutral for me thanks Sky, especially since you jacked the sport package in time for the RWC (and don't try and tell me it was because you moved ESPN into the package).

You can record 2 channels and watch a third.

The good thing about MySky compared with TiVo is that it has 4 tuners so it if you are recording two channels that finish at say 8:30 and start to record 2 other channels that start at 8:30 it will still get plenty of overlap by using all 4 tuners as long as the channel you are watching is one of the 4

If you look at the planner you can see all 4 are recording at the same time.
I have been using TiVo as my primary recorder as it has over a TB of storage (with the expander) and my MySky is always full. With TiVo even if you are recording 2 episodes of Simpsons in a row it will lose the first 10 mins of the second episode if you are recording another channel

(sorry if I am off topic)

One thing the new recorder really needs is the ability to create groups with so many eipsodes we will now be able to record

Are you sure about this? I was under the impression that what you suggest would make the machine lock up because the limitation is only 2 recordings at any instant and you are suggesting you can do 4. I must give it a try because I initially did try when I first got the MySkyHDi (a couple of years ago I think

) and it wouldn't do it.

Last I heard was that you can record 2 channels, watch another, and the 4th was there for future use.

Great to know! Thanks for that, I had been avoiding recording consecutive programs while recording something else. I wonder if it was an update or has always been that way.
Just to provide some relevance to the original thread, that capability makes the bigger storage seem more attactive, but having already handed over $600 I am loathe to give them $150 more ($50 maybe, considering the current price of HDDs).

This will void your warranty of course, and probably cause cancer in rats.

From someone I know who did this. Sky did some update that doesn't see the whole drive.

And it also won't work. The correct replacement procedure is considerably more difficult than this and should only be attempted by someone who is experienced and knows what they are doing.
