Just received:

SKY Television launches its latest personal video recorder ‘MY SKY+’ with four times the recording capacity of MY SKY HDi.

While the MY SKY HDi decoder will still be available, from July 1 SKY subscribers will have the option of taking MY SKY+ for a one off joining fee of $649 or a subscription of $20 per month, plus a $99 joining fee.

SKY Television’s Director of Marketing, Michael Watson said “The launch of MY SKY has been a phenomenal success. The reason it has proven so popular with our customers is because it delivers so many real benefits and has truly changed the way many people watch television. Our customer feedback and research told us that a considerable number of MY SKY users desired more personal recording capacity. This need is likely to increase with the growing prevalence of high definition shows. We developed MY SKY+  to deliver that additional recording space, with four times more capacity but still with all the MY SKY HDi features users are accustomed to”, he said.

MY SKY+ is on sale from July 1. Existing SKY subscribers can choose to upgrade their existing MY SKY HDi decoder to MY SKY+.

Wish they'd allow two of them in a house hold to talk to each other and pull content.

extra 5 bucks per decoder for the + model

Get MY SKY HDi for a low one off $99 installation fee, and $15 a month on top of your SKY monthly subscription.

With MY SKY+ you get all the same great features as MY SKY HDi but with four times the capacity for your recording.
It can record up to 130 hours of HD recordings - that's over 5 days of HD recording!

Get MY SKY+ for a low one off $99 installation fee and $20 a month on top of your SKY monthly subscription.

Boy they are getting greedy! What they should be doing is dropping the price of the standard model (as it would have dropped over time!!!) and putting these + ones in at the current price.

Sorry Sky - your greed is starting to get a bit much.

Sounds pretty good to me.

I wonder what the deal is with VF broadband customers who have the My Sky discount, and if the $20 off would apply in that case....just emailed Sky to ask them, hopefully the answer will be the one I want to hear :)

So $150 to upgrade my original MYSKY HDi box and another $5 per month?

incorrect actually.

either:

$149  upfront fee if you paid outright for the original MySkyHDi box

or

$99 upfront and $5 more per month if you currently pay $15 per month for MySkyHDi

It is even better. I currently have a silver MySky and a Black MySkyHDi that I paid the $649 for.

They tell me that for my $150 I will get to replace my silver MySky with MySkyHDI+ and keep the MySkyHDi

I wonder if when UFB becomes widespread in the future, we'll see some competition from triple play services...

It's also 3D ready.

From page 9 of the July Sky Watch magazine:

"Sky has also continued to improve the My Sky service by making it 3D ready. So if you have a 3D TV, Sky Sport and the HD Access ticket, come October you will be able to watch the last 4 games of the Rugby World Cup in 3D in the comfort of your home".

If providers can access content then the answer is yes. The problem however is that many people consider content like Sky Sport a 'must have' which leaves other providers no choice but to enter into an agreement with Sky.

Sorry Sky - your greed is starting to get a bit much.---

Really? maybe they should just keep it simple and make all users buy it up front for $649, then you cannot say they are greedy.

Is this greedy too? "It is even better. I currently have a silver MySky and a Black MySkyHDi that I paid the $649 for. They tell me that for my $150 I will get to replace my silver MySky with MySkyHDI+ and keep the MySkyHDi"

So is it a whole new decoder or an update of existing?
