speedywiz: ahh, thanks now it makes sense...  so if I have a freeview box connected to the LNB, then it will always be pumping out 18Volts to the LNB,  and anything else connected to the same satellite cable trying to get Vertical polarity (V) pushing out 13V will be useless, because 18V is higher...

correct

what if one set top box sends 13Volts (for vertical) and another 18Volts (for horizontal), does that mean the average? 15.5V?  meaning they both stop working?

Depends how you split the signal.

If the cables were spliced together (ie. not using a splitter) then you'd get the max current being drawn from the 18 V box flowing to the 13 V box, probably frying the power supplies in one or both boxes and making the cable a little warm.

Most splitters prevent that. They send either the highest voltage from all connected boxes (all-ports-power-pass) or the voltage from a particular leg of the splitter marked power pass (single-port-power-pass).

I checked my dish alignment and its 100% spot on. its cloudy outside at the moment. I get 90% signal strength and 90% signal quality from the other Transponders. I was getting 80% signal strength, but I removed a couple of splitters etc. now I get 90%, but it still didn't solve the TP 12483 no signal.

What are you using to test your dish alignment?

my feet, to push the dish around. a socket,  + freeview USB DVB-S stick with a laptop on the roof :) and some software to check the signal :)   I noticed the working transponders were really not fussy about movements up to 3cm of offset :)   I know you think I'm crazy. but hey, I don't think the problem is the dish.  maybe my LNB is faulty?

If you have the dual throat / ex sky lnb then there is a very real chance your issues stem from this.

haha, I didn't change anything... all the transponders are working again now at 10:30pm, cloud conditions worse. maybe the LNB likes the cold?

The Oval ones go off frequency. Try tuning 10MHz lower or higher. You might get lucky. I was joking about it being d1.... Can't wait for Intelsat 18 to arrive. Free porn probably on that bird...

Yes this has been the case, with water sprayed from a hose helping on hot days etc.

Get a new lnb....Wink

Not really a question for the Sky forum, but yes, you can receive 12398V if you have a DVB-S2 compatible receiver. A standard DVB-S box won't do it.

oh great, got the new 10750 65db Gain, low noise 0.3dB LNB, and the throat diameter is too big for the old bracket.. and the f-connector plastic jacket that pops on from the old lnb has radius of 3mm too big... so whos great idea was this? can't these things have international standards or something? or is it that the great thing about standards, being that there is plenty to chose from!? damn it.

signal strength and signal quality did not improve with the new lnb. signal strength stayed the same on nearly all LNB angles, signal quality was affected quite a lot on the skew and tilt of the lnb. I was still surprised by the perfect working range of the tilt and skew angles.

The new lnb locks onto the transponders now in less than 1 second, it was 3 seconds on the old lnb. I have not checked for a long enough period of time to see if its had any affect on my problem yet. time will tell.. gotta get a new bracket and plastic f-connector jacket for it yet... where can I buy those?
