what do these transponders have in common?  I can't get any streams... signal is good. other transponders are working great SD and HD.

They're all horizontal?

Maybe if only verticals work there is a cable problem making the lnb stay 13volts vertical instead of going 18volts horizontal.

Do you pay for sky or get it for free?

If you pay, call sky and get them to fix it. That's part of the service.

What are the other transponders that are "working great"?

I was wondering that too. Maybe it's the Optus d1 satellite that's the common factor here. Never trusted d1. ;-)

hdinsider, I think you smoke too much :)

1) optus d1 hasn't used vertical for a long time, lol. maybe you've been smoking that whole time.
2) the dish must be fine, because I can get all other transponders on optus d1 with 90% signal strength
3) haven't you read the thread about the customer service sucks when you call the professionals.. DIY and GeekZone is always more reliable.

the stars and moons must be aligning today... more streams are now available on all transponders... here is the full list,

what does the ones that were not working having in common?

Speedywiz - What type is your LNB? I'm betting on a Sky Dual (Oval head, single output)

Optus D1 12398 V tp 3 is still used ,

Not necessarily ,The LO may be off & the skew may not be optimised

thanks for the tip, I had completely ruled out LNB alignment because of all the success on the other transponders, I assumed if I can get one transponder fine I should be able to get them all ok. it varies throughout the day which ones fail.

I will go back and check my wiring and LNB alignment, I think I should eliminate that first. seems kinda obvious to check it, but I don't have the tools or skills to re-align an LNB, I may end up making it worse. I'll borrow my friends sky dish aligner, and give the lnb a few nudges.

I'll keep taking variables out of the system, until I find the intermittent problem... standard kiwi DIY troubleshooting process :)

theres no need for Vertical in NZ.  I'm guessing that only H is now used all the way, because A) its cool  B) its super cool  C) so that all freeview set top boxes and sky multiroom can use the single lnb setting, without set top boxes fighting over V or H in the LNB internals circuitry..  (I just made that up, but it kinda seems logical)

12398 V  has no NZ channels on it.. if there is, its probably just an old channel9 stupid budget channel or something. nothing anyone cares about.

yep, it is.

next time some transponders stop working, which happens often,  what should I check?   ~18V is definitely always on the cable, I know that for sure.
