JoBudge: Does it work on wifi? We don't use ethernet and would be really hard to put it where we use our tv's.
Do you need a Gmail account?

Hi Jo

Looking at the settings, Wi-Fi is available as an option. Can’t speak to how good it is or if it’s part of the setup process, but my experience of google devices is the support for Wi-Fi is quite good and I expect it would be possible to use ongoing.

Best thing of course is to contact Sky.

Personally, all my devices in house are wired with exception of iPhone, iPad and heat pump

On Saturday I called and cancelled Sky and my order for 2x SkyPods.

Most of our viewing these days is content on our Disney+/AppleTV+/Prime/Netflix subscriptions. The only live tv were watching was TV1 (for The Chase/News), and NatGeo and the History channel. Everything else was OnDemand. With Sky indicating that NatGeo was going soon, and the TVNZ channels weren't going to be integrated into the guide etc on SkyPod, I decided I wasn't really getting value for money, and decided to save the $80 a month.

We use two recent LG OLED TVs, with all the apps integrated. Over the weekend I installed an antenna and scanned in the Freeview HD channels. I also added a few IPTV streams including Smithsonian channel etc, so I can still get my documentary fix (NatGeo content is also on Disney+). Now that I've tried it all out, I'm pretty happy with the solution.

We may end up getting SkySportNow for the few months the All Blacks are playing. (or might not bother - not watching as much rugby as I used to)

Has anyone had a crack at enabling the Android TV developer options and trying to pull the SKY APK off it? Am interested to have a poke around to see if I can add it as a data source for NZXMLTV.

Yes and start your own business call Sky Mods Ltd

Any Android systems can be hacked, but you might end up bricking it!!

And I imagine all of their content is DRM encrypted (and hidden behind authgates I imagine), making any sort of hacking virtually impossible. I'm far more interested in taking a look at where it gets its TV guide data from!

Oh dear. I haven't cancelled, but as far as I know nothing has been shipped for me yet!

With little more than 2 weeks left before Vodafone TV is switched off, and potentially tens of thousands of these devices to ship out by the end of the month, I wonder if they'll meet the deadline for everyone, especially if they're shipping some of them out to people who don't even want them 😜

Thankfully I wont be charged for them until they're plugged in and activated. They're sending me a return bag to send them back.

So we have to power the puck via USB cable? The 1 metre cable supplied is nowhere near long enough.

USB cables are relativity cheap, you can use up to 5 metres over that you will need a booster

I understand that, just annoyed that I have to go buy a longer one, I expect a lot will have to do the same.
