Sorry guys, I've come to this thread late and am a bit confused...

I'm currently on Vodafone broadband with Sky add-on. The ADSL unlimited data broadband is $104 and Sky is $50 basic + $30 sport + $15 MySky (MySky is then discounted off). So it's coming in around $190 a month!

Was thinking of moving my broadband to Spark as our mobiles are there, so would be closing the Sky account and re-opening maybe under my name (currently under wife's).

Can I still get get the deal and how do I go about it?

Thanks

John

Ok I will definitely proceed with this. So as I am changing the broadband provider too I need to work out the right timing. Currently on a Vodafone broadband and Sky package under wife's name...

If I open Spark VDSL naked broadband under my own existing Spark account, I assume it's not like switching cellular provider where they deal with the other party? So I need to cancel Vodafone, order Spark, and order Sky all separately? And if so, is there any trick to getting it all sequenced to minimise the downtime?

Thanks as always

John

If your switching broadband providers, just call Spark and say you want to transfer from Voda to them. Don't call Vodafone and cancel as that can delay things.

Too funny - I just got off the line with Spark and they said the same thing: don't tell them you are transferring, just ask to close so you don't get a delay!

Thanks to this thread, I had Sky installed yesterday on this deal. Got it for the America's Cup and the Rugby after Sky whacked up the price of FanPass. Will disconnect after Christmas and may well re-join next year for the Rugby again.

Only issue (and nothing to do with the deal) is that the Installer obviously didn't check much - none of the HD channels are working on my decoder (1,2,3,PrimeHD, Zone, Sky Sport HD). All the crappy SD channels work though. - Getting a T100 - atmospheric message - clearest day of the year :)

This may have been mentioned already, but the other week, I heard on the radio a Sky deal advertised, and the offer wasn't available to anyone who had recently cancelled Sky in the last 3 months.

I think this was dealing with Sky directly, not via one of the Telco's

Just arranged the Sky install from this "magic number" - to be done on Friday. MySky+, Basic, Sport, HD ticket $49/month.

Unbelievable.

Thanks to the Geekzone community for this!

John

[edit] By the way, that would be $109 per month regular SkyTV retail price.

This isn't via a telco either... this is a telephone marketing company that Sky uses to sign up new subscribers.  The woman that runs it told me that you need to provide 30 days notice of disconnection and then wait another month after returning the equipment and then you can ring them again for another connection.  This may have changed recently but I am not aware that it has.

I just rang and checked and through this number you need to be without the decoder for 30 days and then you can ring through and sign up again.

I think this stand-down won't apply if the new account is in a different name.

True but best you tell them it was a flatmate that has moved and it is a new connection for you.

Signed up for the MySky+, Basic, Sport, HD ticket $49/month and had it installed last week.

Even had it installed in a room that wasn't cabled for Sky, great service.

Was asked "do you have any pending cancelations with Sky" but that's all.

That doesn't sound good.  Was there an existing dish? The installer should have tested it if there was.  My installer said you should almost never get the rain fade atmospheric conditions message and if you are there is most likely a fault or a physical barrier such as a tree.  I would ring and get the installer back.

Note: if he didn't enable the HD ticket this is not part of the 'deal' anyway so you can just ring sky directly and they will turn it on for an additional @ $10/month
