I also got my Pod today, so I’ve only used it for a couple of hours as yet.

It certainly has problems. I’m hoping the hardware itself is fundamentally capable and that the problems can be reduced over time with software updates.

The laggy interface is annoying, and the lack of TVNZ channels (other than within the TVNZ app) is going to grate (although I know that particular problem is out of Sky’s control).

It’s Android, so it’s always going to be a bit muddled and the user interface will never match Apple TV for intuitiveness and reliability, but I’m hopeful it can be improved to the point where it will become at least adequate. I just need an interface that gets me to the content I want to watch without a lot of messing about, and it’s definitely got some distance to go before it reaches that point.

I’ll stick with it for now and give Sky a chance to sort out the main issues.

If the Pod has issues so would the box, goodness me SKY, I step forward and 2 steps back!!

The problems reminded me of the time when Sky in the UK launched a major software upgrade with a totally new interface on their box about 20 years ago. It was awful, and the interface was so slow it was virtually unusable. There was a huge outcry from the users. However, they sorted out the bugs fairly quickly and it became quite good.

Maybe I’m over optimistic, but I’m just hoping Sky NZ can do the same!

Yes, there were issues with the HDi Box years back where people complained about the size and colour of the font was unreadable for a lot of people, they fixed that with a firmware update

I just got my Sky Pod today and have configured it after problems with an old email address which I was still required to log in with during the activation process even though I had notified Sky of my new Email address. They changed the email address for notifications but did not change the login email address until I complained.

Everything is working well, except for guide icons occassionaly appearing for long periods when pressing the live TV button. The only way possible to get rrid of them quickly sometimes is to go left and click on Watch TV. Also moving around in the Guide is very slow,  I think they are reloading all channels for a movement in the guide and not just those appearing on the screen. Poor design! Hopefully this will change soon.

I was told by the Sky Pod/Box Helpdesk (0800 759 190) that the TVNZ Channels (TV One, Two, and Duke) are still being negotiated for, to go on the Guide. Hopefully they won't be long in coming as the ability to rewind/replay TV One Breakfast, News Seven Sharp, Fair Go and Repair Shop, was the main reason I got the Sky Pod, and I am  paying for Sky Starter which is meant to include Freeview channels according to the Sky website. Also when I ordered my Sky Pod the fact that these channels would not be available was not indicated.

Does anyone know how to get the TV AV Input button on the remote (above the Planner button) to work with a Sony TV as I can see no way of programing the remote to also support my Sony Bravia TV?

I miss the fast forward and rewind preview (small windows) that were present on Vodafone TV. I wonder if Sky will add them sometime in the future? We can but hope.

It also needs a way of suppressing Sky channels that have not been subscribed to, from the Guide.

23 Years ago I moved in with my dad for awhile and he had Saturn TV cable and I decided to get Sky installed, back then he was having issues with left and right audio channels not working right, he was on the phone to them frequently, not sure what happened in the end.

Then Saturn sold out to Telstra Clear I think and ended up in the hands of Vodafone, Vodafone end up buying out Telstra Clear and other ISP's in bulk, then the shite hit the fan, Vodafone users were told to find another e-mail and web hosting provider and it was a matter of time before all other services with Vodafone was eliminated, now the time has come and you Vodafone customers and now left vulnerable.

My professional advice is to cash up and move your TV services to SKY, Internet Services and 021 number to Spark before you end up on a Chinese network, I have done this and never looked back

They may have been cheaper but you pay for what you get!!

Vodafone RIP!!

The Sky Pod Remote needs a way of getting to the start of the program without having to sit on the rewind button, perhaps by long pressing the play/pause button.

Press OK to bring up the programme information. Press OK again to go into “more options”, then press OK again to select “watch from start”. It’s too many key presses, and it isn’t especially intuitive, but it does work so long as it’s a channel that allows restarts. It would be better if it didn’t lag so much between key presses.

I’d like to know that too - it also doesn’t work with my Panasonic TV.

Also a bit disappointed that I can't install the Apple TV+ app on the Pod. I can see it in the Google Play store, but it says it's not compatible with this device.

It's inconvenient having to switch between two different devices (especially when the Pod's AV input button doesn't work), but I guess the Apple TV will stay in use alongside the Pod. I suspect I'll also continue to use the Apple TV for other apps until Sky (hopefully) shake out some bugs and speed up the Pod interface to less annoying levels.

That's not a good start, I guess Plex won't install either? could you possibly give it a go?

Reading this thread I have a feeling of déjà vu to the fun days of the release of Vodafone TV streaming box, actually also the release of VFs cable box.

/Thanks for that reply, Ivan Piacun.  I wonder if you've worked out how to make the TV guide go back three days (72 hours) in order to watch programs that you might have missed, as they say in the various info about the SkyPod.  I see a little arrow with a reverse circle beside the label "Today" at the top of the TV guide, but can't seem to get to it to press the button, which logic tells me might be the solution to this question.

Yes, the only way I've found of going backwards is from the TV guide. You do have to select that tiny little icon in the top left of the guide by clicking upwards and left and then hitting OK, and then move back down into the body of the guide (not on the channel list) and then you can scroll left. It's an awful design, and very fiddly to use. It took me a few attempts to get it to work.

What Sky should do is change the way they treat keys so that when in the Guide Fast Forward and Rewind should move days in the Guide, or they could show the past 3 days at the top of the Guide, without having to select the back arrow icon, and allow selection of them. It seems as if the Guide has been designed for the Sky Box without much consideration for the Sky Pod.

Yes, that would be much better, and a lot easier to use.

I think the entire Sky Pod project was a last minute addition to cater for Vodafone TV users, so I think you're right - the guide was probably designed for the Sky Box, and they hurriedly added on these features for the Pod.

I just hope they continue to actively develop it for the next few months to make it more usable. It would also make more sense to allow the Box to have the same rewind feature in future.
