Thanks for that reply, Ivan Piacun.  I wonder if you've worked out how to make the TV guide go back three days (72 hours) in order to watch programs that you might have missed, as they say in the various info about the SkyPod.  I see a little arrow with a reverse circle beside the label "Today" at the top of the TV guide, but can't seem to get to it to press the button, which logic tells me might be the solution to this question.

Yes, the only way I've found of going backwards is from the TV guide. You do have to select that tiny little icon in the top left of the guide by clicking upwards and left and then hitting OK, and then move back down into the body of the guide (not on the channel list) and then you can scroll left. It's an awful design, and very fiddly to use. It took me a few attempts to get it to work

Thanks so much for this reply, Rushmere, I think I've almost got it, but will have to keep trying to do it more efficiently!  I did see the little rewind circles in the blue program listings, so believe I'm nearly there.  Gosh, it's a frustrating thing to deal with, being so laggy, isn't it?

Received my new Sky pod today. First part of the setup was a breeze however it has been sitting on "system update installing" for nearly an hour. So far the line has moved about one tenth of the way across the screen. The update size is 740mb which should have downloaded in a couple of seconds. The background music is driving me nuts. At this rate it will have finished installing tomorrow morning. Does not bode well.

Just an update. Finally got tired of waiting for the download so just unplugged and rebooted the device. Download went a lot faster this time and it eventually updated. Then spent half an hour waiting on a call to Sky as my account will not load on the website or sky account app. I can log in ok but then nothing loads. Consequently I can't access any live tv as I can't activate my subscription. Sky customer service told me to wait until tomorrow morning and try again. Meanwhile I have set up the rest of my apps which seem to work ok.
On the other hand the he sky browser / android skin and EPG are horrendous. Jumpy, lagging, constantly refreshing and difficult to navigate. They have basically destroyed the android tv experience. I have a Smartvu dongle with android tv 11 and a Chromecast with google tv on a second tv and projector and they are super smooth in comparison. There is no way this is an adequate replacement for Vodafone tv in its current state .

So after furiously hitting buttons on the remote and swearing at it for approximately ten minutes, my partner formally declared the Pod to be “a pile of junk” and switched on the Apple TV.

Oh well, I guess that’s the end of that 😬

Their servers are probably overloaded with everybody setting uptgeir devices at the same time. Nevertheless they should have anticipated this .

Also a bit disappointed that I can't install the Apple TV+ app on the Pod. I can see it in the Google Play store, but it says it's not compatible with this device.

It's inconvenient having to switch between two different devices (especially when the Pod's AV input button doesn't work), but I guess the Apple TV will stay in use alongside the Pod. I suspect I'll also continue to use the Apple TV for other apps until Sky (hopefully) shake out some bugs and speed up the Pod interface to less annoying levels.

That's not a good start, I guess Plex won't install either? could you possibly give it a go?

I just tried Plex - it does install and run.

The Sky Pod Remote needs a way of getting to the start of the program without having to sit on the rewind button, perhaps by long pressing the play/pause button.

Press OK to bring up the programme information. Press OK again to go into “more options”, then press OK again to select “watch from start”. It’s too many key presses, and it isn’t especially intuitive, but it does work so long as it’s a channel that allows restarts. It would be better if it didn’t lag so much between key presses.

This only works for certain programs. You cannot restart three news!

It's a shame sky simply didn't secure the rights to the Vodafone tv box.

The strategy Sky is following is deeply flawed. They are absolutely hopeless at selecting, developing, and deploying these boxes. They are so cheap they never think more that 2 months ahead. The hardware is severely out of date before they even launch, let alone what this will perform like in 2 years time. They should give up, get an external developer to create a slick Apple TV and Android TV app that does live TV and on demand, and sunset the old Sky boxes out for those that still want them over the next few years.

After using the Sky Pod for a few days, I have a few suggestions for significant improvement that sky could make:

  1. Add TV One, Two and Duke to the Guide as we are paying for Sky Starter which is supposed to include all the Freeview channels.
  2. Were the program being played can be rewound to the start have a Long Press on the Play/Pause button take you to the start.
  3. In the Guide have rewind button take you back 24 hours, and the fast forward button take you forward 24 hours.
  4. When the power off button is pressed, and HDM CEC is on in settings, have it turn off all home theatre/sound bars attached to the TV i.e. I have a Sony Bravia TV, with a Home Theatre System attached to the TV on HDMI port 1 (the ARC port) which is currently not turned off when the Sky Pod Power off button on the Sky Pod Remote is used.
  5. Have the TV AV Input button on the remote be programmable to control the TV HDMI Input for the appropriate brand and model of the TV present using infrared. A programming capability like that on the Vodafone TV remote would be ideal.
  6. Have the fast forward and rewind buttons in Sky viewing show small preview windows so that it is easier to fast forward or rewind to the point you want, like Vodafone TV does.
  7. Have a setting to suppress channels that you are not subscribed to from the Guide and have the up and down channel button and navigate up/down skip over channels not subscribed to. This would make the system far easier to use and more user friendly.
