Journeyman:

Oblivian: Wow. Just wow.

Talk up the pole vaulting. Put a non medal 7s match on 2 channels instead. And 1of them may not be yet to reach her height, but the other is already!

Was the pole vaulting even happening when they had the Sevens on?

The 2nd kiwi they keep forgetting about. Her 4 early attempts were all replays as a result. And Toni even kept hyping for Eliza's first attempt coming up

And the live logo disappeared when showing the shotput.. backed up by the results on the background of vaulting showing she was 2d before we saw it

Note that there only appears to be one feed from the broadcaster over the entire athletics events, so I don't think there was much TVNZ could do with regards to showing Pole vault and shot put etc.

The host broadcaster really only focused on those events during their latter stages.

Errrrmmm. Men's discus, (and 3000m with more Kenyans cleaning up on big screens inside at least) was on the other tvnz feeds In the early stages along side of it. Someone watching the 18 CH 7 online feeds could confirm but I suspect there was more than 1 active. Even the camera men were in groups of 3

I was watching the BBC feed. And then the Singapore feed. They all seemed the same as the TVNZ feed. Maybe there were auxiliary feeds available. But their definitely seemed to be one 'Main' athletics broadcast that all the broadcasters were showing.

Appears there's also a disconnect between the ad button and live studio.

I was on a call, but going by the comments on Facey, they cut to Toni who goes "and that was her final vault for the games"... Just at the end of an ad break that noone saw the vault.

And went to break before showing Val's distance lol

There was a heap of 'back in 30/46/60seconds that didn't happen. And then were made up for during action with a gold ceremony pause between hah

There is a mux of 6 channels broadcasting on Asiasat 5. Ill take a look on Saturday as to how they match up with what TVNZ are showing. But I would expect them to have an official broadcaster link to all of the events in the same way that channel 7 does. E.g one from every event.

What everyone seems to be forgetting is that TVNZ is catering for its loyal viewers who only ever watch TV1. Most of whom probably couldn't work out why there was sports on instead of Coro St anyway.(sarcasm)

If this is an example of their abilities, them I await their efforts for the RWC with some trepedation because it appears that all of the corporate knowledge of running sports coverage has disappeared from the state broadcaster.

Last night's "coverage" of the pole vault and shot put events etc demonstrated everything that's wrong with free to air TV. Toni Street did her best but seemed to be out of her depth and confused about what was going on. It seems that the main purpose of the broadcasts was to put on as many advertisements as possible and not to provide excellent sports coverage.

The ads came thick and fast and totally ruined the continuity of the events. Little notices appeared at the top of the screen saying things like "back in 60 seconds" (or 45 seconds) so that even more ads could be shoved into the "coverage" at the most inappropriate times and interrupting live action. It was a case of some occasional pieces of disjointed sports "coverage" amongst a barrage of advertising.

I just put the increased number down to knowing those 2 events were likely to be popular and therefore seen by similar numbers to the opening ceremony. So jammed in on the hope of Double exposure. But yes, the positioning was a shocker. So disconnecting

Check out the 'tvnz Commonwealth games' fb page for lols

I remember previous pre-multi screen coverage of such events. We would get in one of the corners of the screen a small PIP view of other events. Of course that would be a big nono now as the obvious place would cover up the TVNZ logo!
